Was the exchange between Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus at the VMA's on Sunday staged?
That's the million dollar question (and if Kanye West will actually run for President). An MTV press spokesman assures us the bit was "100 percent real," but we're having a hard time believing that. Minaj slipped out a smile after "calling out" Cyrus - and there's several explanations we conjured up:
1. Her batshit crazy grin is the kind where you force your body to withhold aggression but it somehow manifests anyway.
2. We're being played.
Those are our only options, and we'd like to believe MTV isn't lying to us, but we have a feeling it's a ploy for controversy. A staged explanation for a staged publicity stunt is the ultimate fan-fiction, and we live for it either way.
A new camera angle uploaded to MTV does show Cyrus appearing to get thrown off for a moment when Nicki Minaj pounces, saying “And now back to this bitch that had a lot to say about me in the press. Miley, what’s good?” Afterwards, she mouthed: “Don’t play with me, bitch!”
Miley looks surprised and responds with a picture perfect ~we're all in this together~ sentiment, but she did grow up as one of America's most beloved actresses. Also, MTV definitely said "What other female feud will be settled on stage" before cutting to commercial break.
At the end of the day, we're cool with it either way. Just keep releasing free albums. Back to you, Jimmy Kimmel.
