Missy Elliott might be schooling Miley Cyrus about cultural appropriation in her latest single, "WTF (Where They From)."
Believe everything you read on the Internet, said no one ever. However, it's hard to not dissect the lyrics in Missy Elliott's new song and think it's about anything but Miley Cyrus.
Elliott, who hasn't released a proper solo single in 10 years, witnessed the music game change right before her very eyes, and she isn't thrilled. She's apparently taking aim at Cyrus in her new song, and we can't help but laugh and air high-five Elliott, while shaking our head in disappointment. Is her comeback single really about pitting women against each other?
The lyrics in question:
“The dance that you’re doing is dumb / How they do where you from? / Stickin' out your tongue girl/ But you know you're too young.”
If true, she's referring to Cyrus' inescapable barrage of selfies with her tongue out and the twerking. Oh the twerking.
The former Disney star is a target for cultural appropriation – capitalizing on a community she seemingly doesn't belong to. We can't believe Elliott would single Cyrus out in a song, so we'll brush this one up to the Internet's wild imagination.
After all, she's just being Miley.
