"'Hard To Love' is my story, unfiltered."
Matthew Koma shares another unique take on love following "Kisses Back" with his plunky autobiographical new tune "Hard To Love." Co-produced by Louis The Child (The Chainsmokers' "Closer"), the singer-songwriter tackles a metaphorical battle against his own crippling self-doubt, but employs playful lyrics to soften the blow.
"I'm OCD with panic attacks. I've got a thing for Japanese dry snacks. My voice was on like every fuckin house track. Tell me when you've heard enough..."
"'Hard To Love' is my story, unfiltered," Koma tells BreatheHeavy.com. "Louis The Child did an amazing job bringing it to life with me. From social anxiety to an obsession with Goldfish & Pocky and singing on two thousand electronic songs."
Koma has one force to soothe his soul: a newfound (semi-unconfirmed) romantic relationship with Hilary Duff. The pair made their first public appearance as a couple together last weekend at Entertainment Weekly's pre-SAG Awards party. The Breathe In. Breathe Out. singer even gushed over Koma's new tune. "So excited the world can hear this now!," she wrote. "I know the guy ...so this girl got to learn the words and rage to this early."
Koma tells BH his forthcoming album is finished, and recently "produced a bunch" of songs for Shania Twain's new record, as well as collaborations with Steve James, Jaira Burns, Brooke Candy, and RAC.
