Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar do their part in reversing the hate in America with a remake of Bruce Springsteen's "American Skin (41 Shots)."
Remember the cringeworthy moment where Blige sang a bit of this to Hillary Clinton during their sit-down interview together? Hard to watch, but fortunately a studio version of the cover is available, and it's far more enthralling this way.
Lamar's contribution is an original verse.
“These days murder keep ’em busy,” he rhymes. “Sweet blood flowed on the gurney / Yellow tape tied around the street / Colin Kaepernick was more than worthy.”
Mary sings, “Well, is it a gun? Is it a knife? / Is it a wallet? This is your life / It ain’t no secret / No secret my friend / You can get killed just for living in your American skin.”
"American Skin" follows Blige's recent release titled "Thick Of It," the first official release off her forthcoming album Strength of a Woman. It's not clear if the Springsteen cover will make the cut.
