Get to know Mariah Carey from the comfort of your living room.
The New York Times confirmed the rumor Mariah would star in her own reality TV series today, featuring the news with a candid interview from Mimi who opened up about the show airing on E! airing later this year.
The eight-part "documentary series" is titled “Mariah’s World” and will "follow her as she goes on a tour in Europe and South Africa that began on Tuesday, and plans her wedding to her billionaire fiancé, which is to take place this spring."
We quoted "documentary series" because Mariah refuses to call it what it is: a reality TV show.
”I refuse to call it a reality show,” she said, adding it's about getting to know the real her, like “Here I am, getting my nails done.”
“I thought it would be a good opportunity to kind of, like, show my personality and who I am, even though I feel like my real fans have an idea of who I am,” she explained. “A lot of people have misperceptions about this and that.”
Filming began only two weeks ago.
Shows like this, such as Whitney Houston's “Being Bobby Brown,” Paula Abdul's Bravo show or Britney Spears' well-documented life on the road with Kevin Federline, Chaotic ultimately hurt the singers' careers. She'll make sure her 4-year-old twins aren't exploited, as she put it.
“They haven’t been filmed at all yet. There might be a couple of moments, but it’s not about making them the stars of the show. They’re too young to make that decision.”
When news first popped up regarding the, um, documentary series, it was thought she'd show her blossoming love affair with fiance James Packer, but she confirms he won't be taking part (aside from the wedding footage). “He’s a legit businessman,’’ she said. “It’s not really his thing to be, like, traipsing all over Europe and hanging out with all my crew and dancers and singers.”
Carey's manager, Stella Bulochnikov, is the credited "mastermind" behind the show, which she'll also star in, but according to insiders via Page Six... Bulochnikov is a handful.
“Mariah’s amazing and treats people with the utmost respect and kindness and Stella is the total opposite. She comes from producing reality TV and calls herself the Russian dictator,” said the source, who added, “I guess Mariah is just in love and not paying attention to what’s happening around her.”
Bulochnikov appropriately responded to Page Six regarding the story, saying: “If you’re trying to get into my good graces, you’re doing a wonderful job. Feel free to write whatever the f--k k you want, so all three of your readers can be amused. F--k off and lose my number. You are an idiot. Mariah is on fire.”
As for whether she'll film a season two, Carey isn't sure. “I don’t know,” she said. “We’ll see how long I can tolerate being around cameras that much.”
