Mariah Carey's inner circle sees a shakeup after her disastrous performance on New Year's Eve.Mariah admits the lip syncing debacle heard, err... seen around the world was mortifying, and she's taking steps to ensure that never happens again. The elusive chanteuse is parting ways with her creative director, Anthony Burrell, ET reports. "He's not being brought back [in 2017] for a number of reasons," a source close to Carey told them. The source claims the main reason for Burrell's exit is "due to a placement decision he allegedly made without the approval of Carey or her management team." ET reports Burrell "moved Carey's backup singers off the stage for the live performance in Times Square, putting them at the base of the risers in order to make more room for the dancers."

The decision to move the backup dancers offstage "left Mariah without any support." ET points out backup singers can "be a source of support and help an artist pick up cues if their inner earpieces don't work and they can't hear the music." Burrell hasn't publicly commented on the subject, but he did reply with a thumbs up emoji when ET asked for comment. The news comes after Carey issued her first post-NYE statement. "All I can say is Dick Clark was an incredible person and I was lucky enough to work with him when I first started in the music business," she told EW. "I’m of the opinion that Dick Clark would not have let an artist go through that and he would have been as mortified as I was in real time." They ask if she's wary of signing onto a future live TV event. "It’s not going to stop me from doing a live event in the future. But it will make me less trusting of using anyone outside of my own team." The revelation comes after initially blaming Dick Clark Productions for sabotaging her performance for ratings. In other words, Mimi is taking no responsibility for this.
I haven't been able to watch NYE performance. 30 sec from live TV, boss couldn't hear her own vocal in her in-ears from Mic. #heartbroken— Anthony Burrell (@anthonyburrell) January 3, 2017
