Ellie Goulding is the Jean Grey of Major Lazer.
While Goulding works on her followup to 2012’s Halcyon, her presence in music remains more relevant than ever thanks to her one-off singles like “Anything Could Happen” and “I Need Your Love” featuring Calvin Harris, or her feature film soundtrack contributions with “Love Me Like You Do” from the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack and “Beating Heart” from the Divergent franchise. But Ellie truly shines with her collaboration efforts, most recently with Calvin Harris on “Outside,” and again on Major Lazer's "Powerful." Today, a mind bending video for the latter debuted featuring Ellie's signature vocals alongside NYC reggae singer Tarrus Riley. In the James Slater-directed clip, Goulding and Riley exercise their powers (and dark sided stuff) inside a classic diner.
Goulding recently opened up about working on her new record out some time this year and admits it's nearly finished.
I don’t really know why this word seems appropriate but it’s definitely bigger. Whether that means it’s more adventurous, or a bit more ambitious, or a bit more daring, I don’t know. But I’m certainly taking on something a lot bigger than I have before and sonically it’s a lot bigger. I feel like there were maybe certain restrictions on the last album. But I’m at a point now with this album where it’s just taken on a new life now of its own and I can’t stop it. So that album is coming out and what people make of it I don’t know, but it is coming. It’s nearly finished and it will be out this year. Even if it’s out on 30 December, which is my birthday, it will be out this year.
