The MV is a three minute musical explosion set to Indian backdrops, featuring Bollywood costumes and dancing. It's arguably Major Lazer's most compelling visual effort yet, which hopefully won't be too overwhelmed by the inevitable accusations of cultural appropriation.
Diplo had this to say about the video's setting:
"India is special and its beauty absolutely humbled me. When we toured there as Major Lazer, it was mind blowing to see our fan-base and we wanted to incorporate the attitude and positive vibes into our video and just do something that embodies the essence of Major Lazer. Major Lazer has always been a culture mashup and to us, India feels like some kind of special creature with one foot in history and one firmly in the future."
The track itself is also pretty damn solid. With a rolling house-beat, it's more understated that the majority of Major Lazer's extensive production discography, and it benefits from Diplo's renewed interest in simplicity. MØ's vocals hold up well and, all in all, it's a very listenable affair that has the makings of a potential hit.
Major Lazer's third album, 'Peace Is the Mission', is set to drop this June and if "Lean On" is an indication of what's to come, it'll be an exciting piece of work.
What do you think of "Lean On"?
