Madonna also says she likes the pop because he "seems very open-minded."
Religion has always remained a prevalent theme in Madonna's career.
The Material Girl took a moment during her Rebel Heart Tour show in Philadelphia, where the Pope is expected to make his final appearance this weekend, to dedicate her song "La Vie En Rose" to him.
"Rules are for fools," Madonna said. "That's why I like the new pope. He seems very open-minded."
She later commented that "The pope is stalking me," because she recently performed in New York City, where Francis is until Saturday morning.
"Either he's a copycat or he's secretly in love with me."
Madonna also joked, "I've been excommunicated from the Catholic Church three times. It shows the Vatican really cares."
"Since Popey-wopey is on his way over here, I want to dedicate this song to him," she said before launching into a heartfelt version of "La Vie en Rose."
She makes valid points.
