Macklemore & Ryan Lewis return with a slick new song and video for "Downtown."
We weren't sure where Macklemore & Ryan Lewis were steering their musical endeavors when they released a song dedicated to Macklemore’s three-month-old baby daughter Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty titled "Growing Up" featuring Ed Sheeran, but it's clear now thanks to their new release "Downtown" song and video they dropped today (Aug. 27).
The duo's latest visual from their upcoming record, The Heist, takes a page from Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk," showing the guys getting down in street clothes with an all-male posse dancing in sync for backup. The song borrows a synth note from Men Without Hats' “Safety Dance,” along with writing contributions from Eric Nally (lead singer of Foxy Shazam), Melle Mel, Kool Moe Dee and Grandmaster Caz.
In the Ryan Lewis, Jason Koenig and Ben Haggerty-directed video, Macklemore & Lewis eventually have a run-in and a silly dance-off ensues before uniting with a parade of people - much like the sound of the song - which shows vastly different sides on either half of the track.
