Lance Bass says Harry Styles planned on leaving One Direction way before Zayn Malik did.
If anyone knows what it's like for a boyband to fall apart, it's Lance Bass, so when he proclaims Harry Styles is on his way out we should probably ready ourselves for the unfortunate inevitable.
“Harry Styles has been ready to go solo for many months,” Bass said on a new episode of The Meredith Vieira Show . “He was about to leave... I see Harry leaving soon, and I don’t see another One Direction album after he leaves.”
Bass adds Malik's exit was well timed because it made him a household name. “Your grandmother knows who Harry Styles is. With Zayn Malik, you didn’t really know the name until he was the first to leave the group — so, kudos to him for being smart to leave.”
In other words, fast forward 10 years for their reunion performance at the MTV VMAs.
"I think the guys are always going to be friends, they're brothers...[but] the fact they lasted this long is a surprise to me. Hopefully the other four can go on and do a little more music. I see Harry leaving soon and I don't see another One Direction album happening after that."

Update: An official rep for One Direction has denied the claims, saying Bass misunderstood why Styles was recording in Los Angeles and was incorrect about Malik's departure being sudden:
"Reports about Styles working on a solo album are untrue, and that his individual work is actually for the band’s upcoming album. Additionally... Simon Cowell said last week that Malik’s exit was not a total surprise."
