We've known for a while Kylie had new music in store for us, but the dream has become a reality today (Jan. 10). According to multiple reports, the pop star's next LP is named Golden and will debut this spring. It arrives three years after Kylie Christmas and four years after Kiss Me Once.
Rumor has it the first single is titled "Dancing" and premieres in February.
Kylie teased back in December that new music was on the way. "New music coming in 2018 for all the #Lovers," she wrote on Twitter.
The Australian singer has been quietly working on her forthcoming fourteenth(!!!) studio album for several years now.
If you assumed her new body of work would be a collection of angsty breakup songs following her split with ex-fiance, Joshua Sasse, think again.
“There’s a little bit of heartbreak, I would say. Mostly I try to reflect where I am," Kylie told The Sun in 2017.
“Definitely, in the last year, there’s been some of that but we bounce back. Most of it is super positive and inspiring, as a note to self as much as anything else. I’m feeling great right now.”
She also opened up about the sometimes awkward recording process: “It was cathartic. It was good. In the studio it’s a slightly weird concept to be spending seven, eight, nine hours in a room with people sometimes you don’t know. If you’re working with good people it’s the perfect place to deal with stuff.”
And get this: the singer drew major inspiration from a trip to Nashville. “I went to Nashville for two weeks and that became the album," she said. "I did a lot of work on the album before that but Nashville had a profound effect on me.
She added: “The songs are very storytelling and story-based. It was so great to do things a little bit differently.”
The lead single is thought to be produced by Sigala (“Easy Love,” “Sweet Lovin’”). He opened up to The Sun about his participation, and the overarching thematic scheme of her project.
“It’s a 'Spinning' Around vibe. She wants people to be honest with her,” Sigala said of the ‘90s-sounding new tune. “I’m influenced a lot by the Nineties so it makes sense for me to work with her. It fitted really well.” Read more about that here.
Kylie teased back then that the first single is slated for January and is already planning out the performances.
“You’ve got me at a time where I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Thoughts are turning to the look. There will be shows next year for sure. I can’t wait to perform again.”
New year, new Kylie.
