Kylie Minogue is opening up about her new record.
The Australian pop star has been quietly working on her forthcoming fourteenth(!!!) studio album for several years now and has been tight-lipped about it, but she finally granted us peasants a couple of crumbs of info. Blessed!
If you assumed her new body of work would be a collection of angsty breakup songs following her split with ex-fiance, Joshua Sasse, think again.
“There’s a little bit of heartbreak, I would say. Mostly I try to reflect where I am,” Kylie told The Sun in a new interview.
“Definitely, in the last year, there’s been some of that but we bounce back. Most of it is super positive and inspiring, as a note to self as much as anything else. I’m feeling great right now.”
She also opened up about the sometimes awkward recording process: “It was cathartic. It was good. In the studio it’s a slightly weird concept to be spending seven, eight, nine hours in a room with people sometimes you don’t know. If you’re working with good people it’s the perfect place to deal with stuff.”
And get this: the singer drew major inspiration from a trip to Nashville. “I went to Nashville for two weeks and that became the album,” she said. “I did a lot of work on the album before that but Nashville had a profound effect on me.
She added: “The songs are very storytelling and story-based. It was so great to do things a little bit differently.”
Kylie teased the first single is slated for January and is already planning out the performances.
“You’ve got me at a time where I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Thoughts are turning to the look. There will be shows next year for sure. I can’t wait to perform again.”
