Kesha Drops California Lawsuit Against Dr. Luke

In an effort to release new music, Kesha has decided to drop her lawsuit against Dr. Luke in California.

It’s been a long and winding road for Kesha the last several years. She’s embroiled in a nasty sexual assault lawsuit against producer Dr. Luke, which bars her from releasing new music from his label Kemosabe Records. Kesha can no longer tame her creative spirit, so she’s decided to drop the lawsuit in California which would put her on the right track towards releasing new material. She will continue to defend the suit in New York.

“Kesha is focused on getting back to work and has delivered 28 new songs to the record label,” Kesha’s lawyer Daniel Petrocelli tells BuzzFeed News. “We have conveyed to Sony Music and the label Kesha’s strong desire to release the single and an album as soon as possible.”

She recorded the songs at her own expense, in order to fulfill her contractual obligations. BuzzFeed reports if Dr. Luke refuses to release the 28 new recordings, “Kesha could present that as evidence that Sony and Dr. Luke, despite their assurances to the contrary, are refusing to release her new music.”

Dr. Luke’s attorney, Christine Lepera, told BuzzFeed News Kesha voluntarily dropped her claims “because she has no chance of winning them.”

Kesha shared the news via Instagram, saying “My fight continues. I need to get my music out. I have so much to say,” she said. “This lawsuit is so heavy on my once free spirit, and I can only pray to one day feel that happiness again. I am continuing to fight for my rights in New York. Thank you for all your support. The support of my fans has been so beautiful and I’m so grateful for it. I’m Not sure where I would be without you all.
