Kesha is no longer pursuing claims in a NYC lawsuit Dr. Luke sexually abused her.
Several weeks after Kesha revealed she would drop her California lawsuit against Dr. Luke which would put her on the right track towards releasing new material, the fallen pop star is now dropping serious allegations she made against the producer.
Kesha, who recently told a crowd the lawsuit scandal she's embroiled in is "f**king horrible," told her New York judge on Friday via Billboard that she will "not be relying on alleged abuse as a defense to Luke's assertion she violated contract."
This puts Kesha one step closer to recording and distributing new material, but most likely under Luke's Kemosabe record label which she so desperately wanted distance from.
“Kesha is focused on getting back to work and has delivered 28 new songs to the record label,” Kesha's lawyer Daniel Petrocelli told BuzzFeed earlier this month. “We have conveyed to Sony Music and the label Kesha’s strong desire to release the single and an album as soon as possible.”
She recorded the songs at her own expense, in order to fulfill her contractual obligations. BuzzFeed reports if Dr. Luke refuses to release the 28 new recordings, "Kesha could present that as evidence that Sony and Dr. Luke, despite their assurances to the contrary, are refusing to release her new music."
Dr. Luke’s attorney, Christine Lepera, told BuzzFeed Kesha voluntarily dropped her suit in California “because she has no chance of winning them.” It's likely a similar scenario for her legal dispute in New York.
Kesha told fans upon dropping the first suit: "My fight continues. I need to get my music out. I have so much to say," she said. "This lawsuit is so heavy on my once free spirit, and I can only pray to one day feel that happiness again. I am continuing to fight for my rights in New York. Thank you for all your support. The support of my fans has been so beautiful and I'm so grateful for it. I'm Not sure where I would be without you all.
Back in May, Kesha told fans she's ready to take her life back.
"I have been battling depression and an eating disorder for a while now. my career is in a strange place and it feels like I'm fighting an uphill fight some days," she wrote on Instagram, "but I have decided to take my life back. my freedom. my happiness. my voice. my worth."
It's understandable Kesha is dropping the sexual abuse lawsuits against Luke because she's ready to put it all behind her, but at the expense of him appearing like he was innocent?
Stay strong, Kesha. Fight for what's right.
