EARLIER // NOVEMBER 25:
It's a sad day for K-Pop.
K-Pop sees the end of one of their most beloved acts as 2NE1 is officially disbanding.
On Friday (November 25), YG Entertainment broke the news via an official statement, revealing that the contracts for members CL, Bom Park, Minzy Gong and Sandara Park expired back in May of 2016. After rapper Minzy left the act in April, the future of the band was left in question since it'd leave 2NE1 to march on as trio.
"2NE1’s exclusive contract with YG was over and as Minzy was no longer able to continue with us YG and the other members after long discussion have decided to officially disband 2NE1," a translation of the statement reads.
Nonetheless, the South Korean entertainment company will still have ties with CL and Sandara Park as the two will be repped by YG Entertainment for their solo endeavors. Unfortunately, the statement also revealed that Bom Park was not offered a similar renewal.
Read the full statement below:
As of May 2016, 2NE1’s exclusive contract with YG was over and as Minzy was no longer able to continue with us YG and the other members after long discussion have decided to officially disband 2NE1.
As 2NE1 has been the representing girl group of YG for the last 7 years, we cannot express how sad we are, however we have decided that it would be too hard for them to keep going and rather than wait on 2NE1’s activities without promise of when it will happen decided to focus on the members’ solo careers.
We would like to thank everyone for their love and support for 2NE1 and their music.
As of 2016 May, we have signed solo artist contracts with CL and Sandara Park and Park Bom has not resigned with YG.
