Justin Bieber extends his dominance in dance music with his BloodPop-produced new song, "Friends."
It ticks all the checks a pulsating electro-bop from the Biebs requires: an attractive chorus about playing love games, an oscillating beat and slinky production. The lyrics are also meticulously perfect – thanks to songwriter (and pop star in her own right) Julia Michaels. Her sticky touchy can be felt all over this track.
"Can we still be friends?," Justin asks over BloodPop's glossy background. "Doesn't have to end, and if it ends can we be friends?" It's low-key and lit at the same time. "Friends" also has crazy potential to get remixed into something monstrous.
Bieber's "Despacito" collaboration with Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee is on track to break Mariah Carey's Billboard Hot 100 streak, that is... if the Bieber doesn't dethrone himself with "Friends."
