Julia Michaels Lets Down Her Walls On Debut Single “Issues”

Pop's hidden superstar just released a hit of her very own.

Julia Michaels has made a name for herself as a songwriter for the stars, from Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, to Gwen and Britney, but she's ready to stand alone.

Michaels teased her new single "Issues" for the last week, and the sugary sweet pop cut has officially dropped.

"Yeah, I got issues, and one of them is how bad I need you," she sings over a subtle beat and ethereal background vocals.
You do shit on purpose / You get mad and you break things / Feel bad, try to fix things, but you're perfect."

"Issues" doesn't feature the bells and whistles like some of her efforts for Selena Gomez or Britney Spears, and that's a good thing. In an age where emerging artists are desperate to set themselves apart (I see you, Charli XCX), Michaels hangs back. She focuses her attention onto the vibey songwriting and doesn't stuff bipolar production down our throats, and we thank her for that.

Listen to the pop gem here:

Michaels signed a record deal with Republic Records late last year as a solo artist, and her debut EP is slated for a release in the first half of 2017.

Between Bieber's mega-hit "Sorry" and Selena's "Hands To Myself", the songs she has co-written have racked up over 8 billion (with a 'b') streams.
