Singer teased the new venture late last week.
Here's some news to kick off your Monday. Joe Jonas has a brand-new band called DNCE, and they just released their very first single called "Cake By The Ocean" on New York City's Z100.
Unlike his previous solo pop&b tunes, "Cake By The Ocean" is a slice of 70's-inspired pop funk that could see placement in just about any TV commercial around. In fact, the chorus sounds like something straight out of Empire of the Sun's catalogue. It's not exactly groundbreaking, but it's recognizable -- even if that assessment is simply based on the title. I mean, "Cake By The Ocean"?The song, which was produced by Mattman & Robin (Tove Lo, Taylor Swift), started out when Joe overheard the producers say they wanted cake by the ocean (AKA a fruity glass of Sex on the Beach). "That song was a total breakthrough. Once we came up with 'Cake by the Ocean,' everything was electric," Jonas told Complex over email.
Today's the day. @z100newyork plays #CAKEBYTHEOCEAN for the first time tonight at 7 PM!!!!

In case you don't remember, Joe teased this project last week when he uploaded a 15 second teaser of the track on Instagram. DNCE is made up of Joe, guitarist JinJoo Lee, bassist/keyboardist Cole Whittle and drummer Jack Lawless. We applaud his effort to try something new (again) without the assist of his brothers, but we don't know if we're entirely sold on it. We'll have to wait and see how the project unfolds.
Until then, take a listen to DNCE's "Cake By The Ocean" below!
