The "Dominos" starlet released a cryptic statement this morning, putting her cancellation down to a "sudden illness":
"Due to sudden illness I have unfortunately been medically advised to cancel my three remaining shows in Australia, so I can give myself time to rest and get better. I am extremely sorry for any inconvenience this may cause my fans in Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide. If I could magic myself better and be there I would. I can't wait to perform for you all in the future. Thank you for your support. Jessica X"
The whole thing is very strange - when stars cancel shows due to health concerns they usually reveal at least the most basic details of their illness, making Jessie's cancellation mysterious in its lack of explanation.
The blow to her touring schedule follows a mixed album campaign for Jessie J. Whilst lead single, "Bang Bang", was a global success, subsequent releases "Burnin' Up" and "Masterpiece" have failed to make an impact on the charts, causing many to put "Bang Bang's" popularity down to featured artists Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj. Similarly, the actual album, 2014's 'Sweet Talker', made only a moderate splash, failing to match the commercial highs of her first record or even her sophomore attempt, 'Alive'.
It's hard to know what to hope for in regards to Jessie's tour cancellation; on the one hand, it'd probably be better for the star if the termination of her Australian visit was down to poor health rather than poor ticket sales, but on the other hand, I wouldn't wish illness on anyone. Hopefully whatever the cause of the abrupt interruption to her schedule, she'll be back up to par when her tour resumes on April 29 in New York.
What do you think is wrong with Jessie J?
