UPDATE // DECEMBER 20:
The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame has announced the 2017 inductees, which includes Joan Baez, Electric Light Orchestra, Journey, Pearl Jam, Tupac Shakur and Yes.
Nile Rodgers will receive the Award For Musical Excellence at next year's 32nd Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, but he calls the victory "bittersweet" because it does not include his Chic bandmates.
"I'm more shocked than anybody right now," Rodgers tells Billboard. "I'm blown over because I didn't expect to be singled out of Chic. So that's weird right away. It's just weird for me to be picked out of Chic and say, 'Nile, you belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but those other guys...' Of course I am flattered and honored like crazy, but it's sort of bittersweet for me because of all the things I've done that I'm exceptionally proud of, I'm really proud of Chic."
Fans of Janet Jackson were rooting for the expectant mother, but yet again, she did not make the cut.
The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame ceremony takes place at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on April 7, 2017.
EARLIER // OCTOBER 18:
Janet Jackson could be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
She's joined by other legendary acts, including Pearl Jam, Tupac Shakur, Depeche Mode, Electric Light Orchestra, Jane's Addiction, Journey, the Cars, the Zombies, Yes, Bad Brains, Chaka Khan, Chic, J. Geils Band, Joan Baez, Joe Tex, Kraftwerk, MC5 and Steppenwolf.
Rolling Stone reports in order for an artist to be eligible for this year's ballot, their first single or album had to be released in 1991 or earlier.
For the fifth consecutive year, the public will have the opportunity to vote alongside the more than 800 artists, historians and music industry insiders of the Rock Hall voting body. From now until December 6th, fans can vote on RollingStone.com for the nominees they'd like to see inducted. The top five acts will comprise a "fan's ballot" that will count as one of the ballots that determine the class of 2016.
Let's hope Miss Jackson isn't too busy to attend when she inevitably secures the spot!
