Now that Britney's team has confirmed Britney will not be performing at the 2008 VMAs, new rumors have begun to circulate as to what exactly she'll be doing there. According to Showbizspy.com, Britney is "desperate to appear on the show as a presenter," and wants to do so with swimming-phenomenon Michael Phelps - who recently won 8 gold medals at the Olympics in Beijing. But maybe Phelps isn't the gold Britney's looking for...
Yesterday Popjustice.com lead fans to believe a Britney performance was back on when they published an entry saying "A very big pop thing is coming. And we can't tell you about it. We have been told not to tell you. If we tell you we will be in a lot of trouble. Sorry. :(" But this time it wasn't about Britney. Apparently.
TMZ is reporting that MTV is moving on from a possible Britney performance, and pushing for a Michael Jackson appearance. Rumor has it MJ will present an award with lil sis Janet.
Give Janet the boot! I want to see a Britney-Michael reunion, except this time he gives HER the award. Ya dig?

Earlier I had reported that In Touch Weeklys' new cover featuring Britney with the headline reading "New book's sad claim: Britney's life was worse than anyone knew" may have been about Lynne's upcoming memoir. This is not the case.
New information has surfaced from In Touch that claims that damning information is coming from author Ian Halperin, who's penning a tell-all book, titled "Stalking Britney: Britney Under Siege," about Britney's rough patch over the last 18 months.
In Touch reports: "She's on a high right now, but her life goes in circles," investigative journalist Ian Halperin says in an interview with In Touch. "It's like a roller coaster ride. She's a person who is highly sensitive, and just one little thing could set her off."
"In his explosive upcoming tell-all book, Stalking Britney: Britney Under Siege, the New York Times bestselling author explores the secret pain that he alleges drove Britney to attempt suicide four times following her split from ex-husband Kevin Federline. Halperin researched this sensational book during 18 months undercover as a photographer.
The pressures of her career - which began at 12 as one of the youngest cast members on The New Mickey Mouse Club - led to her deep insecurities. "At 15, she had a huge breakdown and had to return home to Louisiana," he reveals. "She was very insecure and felt like she wasn't pretty." But rather than get help, Britney focused on her outward appearance: "She went on a huge diet."
Today, Britney is on medication, but Halperin believes she's far from recovered. "There's no doubt, based on the last two years, that she is a highly unstable person," he observes. "She's on a temporary high right now, but she's never really dealt with all the problems she had. I don't think it's possible to turn over a new leaf just like that."
Yet as far as Halperin is concerned, Britney deserves to get better - and to lead a happy life. She's a "good mother, and a good person," he says. "In fact, she's nicer than most of the stars I've met. But as Britney once told me herself, her life has always been two steps forward, followed by one step back."
For more information, check In Touch on newsstands Thursday.
Check out these exclusive fan-pics of Britney's cameo (includes a picture of Madonna performing) from a fellow BreatheHeavy reader who attended Madonna's "Sticky & Sweet" show in Nice, France yesterday. Nice shots - thanks for the submissions!
Why is In Touch such a fuckin downer every week? Seriously, just make a friggin "Who's Hot & Who's Not" issue for once in your life - stop being so damn dramatic! Anyway, this week's headline says "New book's sad claim: Britney's life was worse than anyone knew." I guess they're talking about Lynne's new memoir, or at least I hope they are. Kind of. I can't handle anyone else putting a book out about her; I'd be bummed. Unless it's London writing a book, no one wants to read it! Guess we'll have to wait and see...
Moving on to a more positive cover, check out Life & Style this week (I never thought I'd say "positive" and "Life & Style" in the same sentence). As summer nears an end (seriously... I have classes in like 2 hours. UGH), L&S names the best and worst summer moments including Britney's new sexy bikini body (I just wanted to use parenthesis again). Congrats Brit!
No covers for People, Us Weekly, Star or OK! this week.
Check out Lynne and her friend Jackie leaving STK last night after dinner. As the two ladies made their way to their car, they were swarmed with a wave of paparazzi snapping pics and asking about Britney's whereabouts. I'm diggin Lynne's necklace - reminds me of Brit's sword necklace she wore all the time. Bring it back! August 26, 2008. Click to stream:
It's VMAnia! Ha get it, see what I did there. Britney has been nominated three times for the MTV EMAs for "Best Act Ever," "Act of 2008," & "Album of the Year!" All are no brainers - duh Britney! The show will air November 8th, 2008 in Liverpool - so there's plenty of time to vote and re-vote! Click the picture below to vote for Britney!
=======================
Popozao! You can also vote for Britney at the 2008 Brazilian VMAs, in which she's been nominated for best "International Artist." Again, click the picture below to vote for Britney!
Let's get Britney these awards on top of the three she'll be winning at this year's VMAs in Los Angeles (cross your fingers).
As exclusively reported first (yeah I shamelessly just plugged myself... what of it), Britney will not be performing at the VMAs. It's OK Kim Vo we all make mistakes, just usually not quite as big.
Larry previously told Ryan Seacrest via email on his kIIs fm show: "Britney Spears will not be performing at the VMAs this year. I am telling you officially and unequivocally that BS will not be there." But in his second statement released, manager Larry Rudolph continues to deny allegations that Britney is taking the stage at the 2008 VMAs, but this time doesn't mention she will not attend as he had previously stated in the email to Seacrest:
"Contrary to media reports, Britney was never slated to perform on this year's VMAs," Larry said in his statement. "She's in the middle of recording her next album, which is going amazingly well, and her focus remains on the studio."
Britney has appeared in several promotional ads featuring host Russell Brand, and has been nominated 3 times for "Piece Of Me" including "Best Pop Video," "Best Female Video," and "Video Of The Year."
So she won't perform, but I'd love to see Britney announce the first set of nominees! The crowd would go nuts!
OH MY GOD! Check out this awesome new video of Britney walking into a building yesterday evening! When her next music video comes out, it BETTER look like this. OK the video shows absolutely nothing except Brit and her security heading into through the back door of a building last night. August 25, 2008. Click to stream:
Check out Britney's bikini body, again, on the cover of this week's UK version of OK! Magazine. Britney's body secrets, pictures and interview were featured on last week's OK! Magazine here in the U.S.
Just change "three meal a day plan" to "six small meals a day plan" and you've got good advice to lose some lbs!
"I got to meet the elephant [in the VMA promotional video]," he says. "It was awesome. Britney really proves how much the fans really matter, because the fans really want to see Britney win and turn it around."
- Pete Wentz talking to People.com before their concert in Denver at the Democratic National Convention yesterday.
Check out Britney and her security heading into Conway recording studios on Melrose this afternoon after her shopping spree at Pottery Barn. I know I said green's her color, but yellow... yellow is her color too! Oh yes, and the recording studio suits her well, too ;) So proud of her! August 25, 2008. Click the picture below to access the entire set:
Britney was spotted shopping in Beverly Hills for house decorations, as well as a stop at the Pottery Barn this afternoon. Britney, in a white tank and low-rise jeans, bought vanilla scented candles and a basket of fake orange flowers from the trendy boutique.
Britney looks like the kinda gal that'd buy 57 candles and place them all around her bathtub, light some incense, slip out of her robe, and mellow out to Enya. Or maybe that's my fantasy...
"Any ideas that we have about her hair are always theoretical. And we always have to be prepared. But she is not performing and so we don't have to worry about that."
- Kim Vo backpedaling to Eonline.com this evening after he "confirmed" Britney was performing at the VMAs. Oops!
Britney recently appeared on MTV's "Best VMA Opens" special, in which she placed twice on the list for her 2003 VMA kiss, as well as her now infamous 2007 "Gimme More" performance. And if that's not enough, the network is planning to air a Britney-VMA special, and gives an exclusive excerpt to BreatheHeavy.com:

MTV NEWS presents 'Pieces of Me: Britney's Best VMA Moments'
For the past 9 years, Britney Spears has been a staple of the Video Music Awards. Her appearances have not only been memorable but they've become events in pop culture . From dancing with pythons, stripping down to skin tight skivvies or making out with Madonna, Britney is the VMA version of a human highlight reel.
On September 6th, MTV News takes a look back at those and many more Brit VMA memories with "Pieces Of Me: Britney's Best VMA Moments." Air times still TBD.
Britney is rumored to appear at the 2008 Video Music Awards, Sunday, September 7th in LA, where she has been nominated 3 times for "Piece Of Me," her second single off "Blackout." Manager Larry Rudolph, in an email to Ryan Seacrest's kIIs fm show this morning, confirmed Britney will not perform.
Set your Tivos! Looks like this year's VMAs belong to Britney! Oh... and enjoy the new outtake (see above)!
Ryan Seacrest read out an email from Britney's manager Larry Rudolph on his KIIS-FM show Monday morning, August 25, in which Larry termed a recent report on E! that Britney would be performing on MTV VMAs on September 7 as "just wrong."
"Britney Spears will not be performing at the VMAs this year. I am telling you officially and unequivocally that BS will not be there," Rudolph wrote in his email.
Rudolph also added that Britney "was in the middle of recording her next album" which is going amazingly well.
Kim Vo, a renowned colorist for Hollywood A-listers including Britney Spears, who features on E! Entertainment's Daily 10, had told E! News that he could be creating three VMA looks for Britney Spears - for her walk down the red carpet, for the show itself and for her performance!
I have been working with Britney's team on her website and fan relations. We're asking her biggest fans to complete THIS SURVEY for Britney and us to better understand the best way to communicate with YOU, the fans, and provide the type of content YOU want.
