Demi Lovato reveals Iggy Azalea has a part on a "Confident" song.
Demi Lovato and Iggy Azalea's performance at the VMA's this past Sunday isn't the only time the two pop divas are teaming up. Lovato opened up about her upcoming record during a call into one of Billboard's recent podcasts, chatting about the meaning behind the album's title, how "Cool For The Summer" came about, her collabo with the Australian rapper and the song she's most proud of.
"It's kind of self explanatory," Lovato says as to why she chose the title 'Confident.' "I feel more confident than ever, but I also feel like I'm at this place... when I made this album I wanted it to be the best thing that I had ever done. Musically, professionally, and I put so much into this and I did a lot of work on my vocals. I tried to figure out 'ok how can I figure out how to be the best that I can, look the best that I can, and show the world that I'm ready for the type of level that I want to play in in music.'"
Lovato admitted she hoped "Cool" would connect with audiences, but didn't plan on releasing it as her first single. She opted for the Max Martin-produced hit "Confident," which surfaced last week ahead of schedule, but realized "you can't really release in October."
"It was really spontaneous, but it works," she said, adding she put the finishing touches on her forthcoming record over the last few months that now includes her Iggy Azalea collaboration.
“My music is taking a more mature and older route, and with ‘Kingdom Come,’ it’s definitely more of a rhythmic song,” Lovato says. “I wanted [Iggy] to be on this album from the first time that I heard that song, even before we knew each other. And then we became good friends, and so it was kind of a situation where it was like, we have to work together."
“It sounds awesome, and I’m really excited for everyone to hear it,” Lovato continued of “Kingdom Come.” “She was really excited too — she was like, ‘I’m really excited with where your music is going.’ And to me, that meant a lot, because before I even knew Iggy I was a big fan, and so it was really cool to hear her say that. Our sounds really meshed well.”
One song she says will surprise fans is the last song she recorded titled "Father."
"I am particularly excited for this song - for people to hear - one because I get very very honest about the passing of my dad. My fans expect me to be honest. What I think that people in general aren't going to expect is the way that I sing the song. I kind of took it more to a soulful, gospel sound. It's a song I think I might be most proud of on the album."
