Heartbreak Inspired Lorde’s New Song “Green Light”

Love is a mother f---er.

Lorde co-wrote and produced her entire forthcoming album with singer and songwriter and Bleachers guitarist Jack Antonoff. After they devised her lead single "Green Light," Lorde knew the rest of the record would begin to take shape. Lorde opened up to Beats 1 host Zane Lowe about the song, saying it's her first personal song about heartbreak.

“It’s not something that I really am used to writing about," she said. "It took me a while to be able to figure out how to write about that. It was my first major heartbreak.”

She also explains a few of the lyrics. “The song is really about those moments kind of immediately after your life changes and about all the silly little things that you gravitate towards,” she adds. “I say, ‘She thinks you love the beach, you’re such a liar.‘ What the f—, she thinks you like the beach?! You don’t like the beach! It’s those little stupid things.”
