Amid fevered speculation, Scream Queens clears the air.

It seems like forever now we've been hearing rumors of One Direction's Harry Styles giving acting a go. His name has been falsely attached to a number of films and TV shows, and after a comment or two from Scream Queens star Lea Michele, speculation hit fever pitch that the 22-year-old was finally secured to appear on the dark comedy.

Alas, after courting the easy publicity for a day, the Scream Queens crew set the record straight:

The false reports came just as seemingly legitimate word surfaced from numerous reliable sources that Styles has won a lead role in an upcoming Christopher Nolan war film called Dunkirk.

Styles’ potential involvement comes after an extensive casting process conducted by Nolan, his co-producer and partner Emma Thomas and Warner Bros. He is believed to have impressed the filmmakers with his readings for the part. Rat Pac-Dune Entertainment is co-financing. Warner Bros has dated the film for July 21, 2017. The studio declined to comment when contacted by Deadline. Styles is repped by CAA.

No official confirmation has been offered up as yet, but allowing reports to continue gaining traction for two days seems promising.

Styles isn't the first to get 1D hiatus project off the ground:

Juicy J continues to hype his much publicised collaboration with Liam Payne, which will feature on J's new album.

Payne is also rumoured to have written songs for Jennifer Lopez's new album.

After appearing at the 2016 Brits with Liam, Louis Tomlinson recently let fans know he's gotten back to songwriting:

He was also seen at CBS Studios mingling with upcoming young artists and groups, likely scouting talent for his record label:

Only Niall Horan appears to have taken an actual break from work, becoming a full time travel Instagrammer in the process:
