Happy Birthday Christina Aguilera! 8 of Her Best Live Performances

December 18 2015, 7:32 am

Today marks the 35th birthday of the queen of belting, Miss Christina Aguilera.

From producing amazing albums like Stripped and Back to Basics, to outshining every contestant on The Voice and starring in the cinematic masterpiece Burlesque, Miss Aguilera has had one hell of a career.

Sure she’s had some ups and downs, but time and time again she’s proven one thing: You can’t hold Xtina down.

There’s no denying that Christina is one of the best singers alive, a fact that she has shown off in countless flawless performances over the years. So what better way to celebrate this day than to bring you 8 of my favourite Xtina performances!

Time to enjoy some Grade-A belting, screaming, growling and all-around vocal amazingness:

“Impossible” and “Beautiful” – American Music Awards (2003)
Xtina is at her best when she is singing her heart out on powerful ballads. This performance is just that: 2 amazing songs from one of her best albums, performed with tons of emotion and spot on vocals.

“Ain’t No Other Man” and “Candyman” – NBA All-Star Game (2007)
Throw in a little bit of dancing, some old Hollywood glamour and a whole lotta runs to show off those famous pipes and you’ve got everything I would want from a Christina Aguilera performance. That note at 5:32? Out of this world.

“It’s a Man’s World” – Grammy Awards (2007)
Often called the Grammy winner’s best live performance, her rendition of the James Brown classic definitely speaks for itself.

“Makes Me Wanna Pray” – Back to Basics: Live and Down Under (2007)
Xtina brought us to church with this performance from her 2007 tour. Her vocals on this joint are just ridiculous. It makes me want to get down and pray that I could have a voice like hers.

“You Lost Me” – Late Show with David Letterman (2010)
No bells and whistles, just a beautiful performance of a beautiful song.

“I’m Ok” – VH1 Storytellers (2010)
This performance from her VH1 Storytellers special marked the one and only time Christina performed this song, written about growing up around domestic violence. In a rare vulnerable moment, she shared with the audience the painful inspiration behind the Stripped track and sang with a beautiful and heartbreaking fragility, rawness and emotion.

“Do What U Want” with Lady Gaga – The Voice (2013)
Christina joined Lady Gaga for a surprise performance of “Do What U Want” on The Voice, putting to bed years of rumors of a supposed feud between the two incredibly talented pop stars. Dancing hand in hand and linking arms as they drank champagne, their voices complimented each other perfectly.

The whole performance felt like a stand against those who constantly pit female singers against each other, and it was perfect.

“New York, New York”, “Livin’ In the City” and “Empire State of Mind” with NAS – NBA All Star Game (2015)
No new music to perform? No problem for Xtina! She came out swingin’ at the NBA All Star Game earlier this year with a medley of New York-inspired hits, in a dazzling, super entertaining number that ended on one hell of a note.

We love you Xtina!
