FKA Twigs premieres an intoxicating new sound for "Figure 8."
There's something infinite about FKA Twigs' latest release off her upcoming Melissa EP - which she tells Zane Lowe's Beats 1 Radio was completed last year - it simply took awhile to complete the accompanying videos and get the right "head space."
"I was feeling a bit sad and quite a bit lost," she says to Lowe because of the "weird world" she was thrown into after completing her first record, adding it's "hard to hold onto who you are... I went to New York and I started to vogue. Every hand movement that you do in voguing is a figure of 8, and that is eternity. Every single move has to flow into the other like the eternal move that never stops moving."
Twigs adds that the Figure 8 symbolizes the on-going struggle and triumph from getting thrust into the music machine of touring: arrive in a new city, rehearse, do an interview, play a gig, leave, repeat. She began to unravel because she didn't understand quite the ins and outs.
The tune came about not long after her previous effort LP1 wrapped. Twigs has performed the song on tour for many months, but it feels evolved in the studio version. Listen here:
