Sam Smith Returns With New Single “Too Good At Goodbyes”: Listen

Recommended Posts

He's back.

Sam Smith debuts new song "Too Good At Goodbyes."

The Grammy Award winning singer has been cooking up a comeback for a while now. He's teased collaborations with Timbaland and Clean Bandit, but those will have to wait. Right now, Sam's focus is on "Too Good At Goodbyes," the lead single off his forthcoming album out later this year. Does the song pack enough of a punch to beat the dreaded sophomore slump? Absolutely. But can he overthrow Taylor Swift's gargantuan Reputation tracks or Kelly Clarkson's double features? Or Demi Lovato's new heartbreak ballad "You Don't Do It For Me Anymore?" That remains to be seen, but he's got a shot.

"Goodbyes" is an evolution from Smith's heartbreak saga on In the Lonely Hour's "Stay With Me." This time around, Smith isn't miserable, but unfortunately... still heartbroken.

"I know you're thinking I'm heartless / I know you're thinking I'm cold," he croons. "I'm just protecting my innocence / I'm just protecting my soul." It's heart wrenching, because clearly Sam's got a guard up; a feeling all us Millennials can relate to. "But every time you hurt me the less I cry / And every time you leave me the quicker these tears dry." God damn.

As the song builds, it leads to a massive chorus. A choir's background vocals adds an element of drama before the track hits its climax then trickles down into the abyss. Part of it feels aimless, like the song should be taken elsewhere, but that's not a bad thing. On "Goodbyes," Sam can run, but he can't hide forever.

I like it but it does sound like it could be off his debut. I hope this album is more upbeat cause I can't take more of In the Lonely Grindr Profile

The song is boring and I'm not a fan of is voice. He sounds whiny all the time.

True. I think he has a great voice but not when he does that whiny high pitch. Like Xtina has a good voice when she isn't hollering :selenerz:

What a triumphant return for Sam Smith! "Too Good At Goodbye's" is a heartbreakingly beautiful and poignant song and Sam Smith's vocals are just stunning - the man never fails to deliver.

I'm smelling another Grammy...

All of you are hating ass bitches, always hating on ugly or overly flamboyant ala franky Grande, Gays that are more successful and talented than your basic asses.

You self hating gays are the reason why the gay community is filled with bigotry, harassment of gays that don't deserve the hate
