As one of the most prominent gay pop stars, Troye Sivan earns a worthy acknowledgment.

Since bursting onto the music scene fresh from YouTube with his debut album Blue Neighbourhood, Australia singer Troye Sivan's career has continued to steadily blossom. From working with Alessia Cara to attending events with the likes of Katy Perry and Taylor Swift, Sivan is fast becoming one of Hollywood's most promising new talents.

Sivan was honored at the GLAAD Awards for promoting acceptance and equal representation through his work. Troye's videos usually feature some form of LGBTQ+ visibility, whether depicted through same-sex love scenes, scenes depicting homophobia or reappropriating controversial objects such as the much improved "Make America Gay Again" hat visible in his Youth music video. Sivan recently released the poignant music video for Heaven on the US Presidential Inauguration Day. Sivan wrote the song about his struggles with coming out as a teenager.

Speaking about his GLAAD Award, Sivan said:

"This award is so much larger than me. This moment is about visibility and about representation. What and who we see in the media defines our perception of the world around us, and so to see ourselves in this picture of what is ‘normal’ and what is acceptable and what is beautiful is absolutely vital. In saying that, so much of the work that has contributed to our progress as a community is far less glamorous than the work that I’m being honored for tonight."

Troye is the youngest ever recipient of the esteemed award.
