Camila Cabello Wasn't Cool With Being Sexualized In Fifth Harmony

12 posts in this topic

"I've had to put my foot down."

Camila speaks out.

Just as you heard from Tinashe, Camila Cabello spoke out about what it means to be a women in the music industry during a recent interview with Lena Dunham as part of her "Noise" podcast, which surfaced on January 5th and also featured Charli XCX, Lizzo and more.

Cabello recorded her appearance prior to her departure from Fifth Harmony, but that doesn't mean that the 19-year-old budding solo star didn't offer her less than desirable take on the sexualization of 5H. "Especially with being a girl group, there’s been a lot of times where people have tried to sexualize us to just get more attention. Unfortunately, sex sells," she said. "There's definitely been times where there’s stuff that I have not been comfortable with and I’ve had to put my foot down."

It's hard to forget that Miss Cabello joined 5H during the Stateside version of "X Factor" in 2011 when she was just 15-years-old. It appeared that Fifth Harmony was first being marketed as the female equivalent to One Direction, but the race levels turned up somewhere along the line. Thankfully, she knew how to balance that.

"I feel like it’s been tricky because we’ve had to grow into ourselves while being in front of the world and while making songs that did have a lot of sexual undertones," she explained. "There's nothing wrong with sexuality. If you have that inside, it's just an expression of who you are. If you want to share that with people, that's amazing."

Listen to Camila talk about growing up in Miami, her own songwriting and social media in the full podcast below!

Let's see her "solo" no-power-up-sexual debut! :sassybrit:

THIS!

She'll probably call it "empowering" in a few months time when she's wearing only a bra in her MV and fukking in bed with her upcoming celebrity boyfriend.

It was so obvious though that most of these girls were just trying hard in their videos. It usually just looks forced and awkward

She was being sexualized in Fifth Harmony but she's not sexualized when she's singing with Machine Gun Kelly on top of a piano at Jimmy Fallon's acting all sultry or whatever. This whole industry is sexualized, men or women. If she can sit down singing ballads with a guitar and just use her voice, great for her. But that's not going to happen. This industry is all about sex, and it didn't seem like she was bothered at all when she was in the group.

I think she prob meant when they came out with Boss. They did look awkward in the first album being sexy. The second album it looked natural. At 15 though i can see being sexy feel wrong. I like Camila i hope she does well. Her only mistake in my eyes is she should have done the third album to get even more exposure and worked on her solo stuff at the same time. I think if she is smart she will be on the levels of Selena or Ariana. Fifth Harmony i think actually benefitted  from this little controversy because alot of the GP didn't know who they were just their songs. This kind of had people looking into them. Sorry for getting off subject.

I'm not a fan of her or 5H but she needs to stfu. She's using this situation to her advantage and I would understand if the others were pissed. She's so attention seeking and such a hypocrite, I can't wait to watch her flop :angietea:

OK so don't worry then because nothing she/they did was legitimately "sexy" - nor did any of their visual work have any actual impact, so :sassybrit:

Isn't she currently on a track called Bad Things where she talks about wanting to do bad sexual things to some dude? :byebitch:

She took an innocent 90s song and turned it into porn, what she does best. :byebitch:
