Mariah Carey Announces A Break From Social Media Following NYE Performance

"They foiled me."

Mariah Carey shared an audio message explaining her take on the New Year's Eve performance and why she needs a break from the Internet.

It was the performance seen (but not heard) around the world. Mariah Carey was stumped onstage when an audio glitch barred her from properly performing.

After that, it was a game of he-said she-said between her camp, Dick Clark Productions and her now-fired creative director Anthony Burrell, the company responsible for producing Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.

Carey maintains her stance DCP sabotaged her, telling fans in a new audio message "they foiled me."

“Although I am going to fulfill my professional obligations, this is an important time for me to finally take a moment for myself and to deal with my loved ones and to prepare for my upcoming tour in March,” she says. “I can’t wait to sing for you again.”

Mariah explains: “It’s not practical for a singer to sing live and be able to hear themselves properly in the middle of Times Square with all the noise, in the freezing cold, the smoke from the smoke machines, thousands of people celebrating, especially when their ear monitors were not working at all,”

Adding, “Listen, guys. They foiled me. Thus, it turned into an opportunity to humiliate me and all those who were excited to ring in the New Year with me.”

She's taking zero responsibility for the mishap, but you gotta love someone that never backs down. Even if it blinds them.

Fire Yolanda Saldivar Stella and quit lip-synching. Do a capella performances from now on and stop dubbing your vocals to sound chipmunkish. Real vocalists should not have to rely on so much technology. Also, she needs to start singing in keys that are suitable to her current vocal condition. If you can't sustain certain notes, then do NOT attempt to. Stop coming off like a fake bitch, clean up your image and get back to the music.

Mariah is touring with the legendary Lionel Richie in March and better NOT even attempt to lip-synch.

I see her perspective- I don't doubt that something went wrong and she got flustered and couldn't get back in focus. That being said it would have been nice to attempt to sing instead of standing there awkwardly trying to say things to make it less awkward

I'm with Mariah on this. How can you sing when you're deaf or almost deaf? If she had attempted to sing, she would have falsed all through the performance and the backlash would have been even worse. She was loosing either way... :weirdmeout:

Plus, Mariah's voice has always been fragile. She has good and bad days. This was obviously a bad day, so she had to lipsynch a part of it...

But, I saw her back in february and she was fabulous and sang live most of the time though a few of the climaxes and whistles were lipped. But, I didn't care, her voice was in great shape! :slayney:

Her mic was on she could have tried to sing or something but even when she was interviewed before with Ryan Seacrest she seemed over it. I think she's stretching it out (this story) to the max and it's a weird move. Instead of just getting back there and giving a performance to die for, she just uses that story over and over again. There's something weird about this story...

She needs to become a recording artist only and not perform live any more. Her voice needs lots of help these days. It was the same for Whitney in her final years - I Look To You was a solid album and she sounded fine, but everyone knows her final tour was a MESS. Her voice was fried and it was a humiliation she should never have gone through. YES, fans want to see icons performing, BUT sometimes it's better to remember the greats as they were not how they are now.

'Million Dollar Bill' sounded great! Whitney could still sing in the studio for sure! Same thing for Mariah, but residences and tour pay a lot more.

I'm sorry, but the only REAL person she should be blaming is herself.  If she was a true artist, regardless if it was her fault or not, she was the one up there, and she should have taken control and owned up to it.  When you don't take at least part of the blame and constantly blame anyone and everyone, it makes you look conceited and even worse than you are (which we all know she's one of the biggest divas).  She's really talented, but she needs to chill out.  Britney's an awesome example of someone who's so humble and knows how to own the stage even when things don't go her way (look at all the times she's had flubs and wardrobe malfunctions, but treks through it and owns up to it (and do any of the critical talk behind the scenes with the respective people).  Tired of this.  Everyone's moved on already.  To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if this was a publicity stunt to grab headlines, and then do a live performance at some big name event to show she can still sang and grab more headlines.

I believe her in ears weren't working, Mariah like Whitney, Celine, Beyonce ect use guide vocals and their in ears have cues to let them know when the guide vocals are coming in and the sound guy is about to fade out their mics for them to lip and also when they fade out and their mics are about to be turned up so they can continue singing live.
