  1. Kanye 808 and Heartbreak Concert 2015

Never being one to follow trends, Kanye West is set to perform his 2008 LP on the Hollywood Bowl stage in September.

Like Rihanna, we received new Kanye music and the promise of a new album earlier in the year…we’re still waiting. Instead of new material, Yeezus is blessing us with a concert of songs from one of his most controversial albums,‘808s & Heartbreak.’

Perhaps he wants to prove, in true Kanye fashion, that his once divisive record was ahead of its time with artist like Drake and TheWeeknd finding major success with the same experimental R&B and rap mash-up.

We don’t know much about the concert or even if he’ll even play all of the songs from the album. There has been no official word from Kanye or his team. A notice appeared on Ticketmaster’s website for ticket pre-sales beginning August 31st. Whatever the case, I hope he brings back out the plaid suit, Emo haircut, and heart pin he wore during the era.

So if you’ve ever wanted to see “

    ,” “
    ,” or “
” live, here is your chance…maybe. If not, I’m sure we’ll get at least one cut from that release tonight at the VMAs as he receives the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

Check out Kanye performing “Love Lockdown” from ‘808s & Heartbreak' at Coachella in 2011.

  2. Miley Jimmy Kimmel photo miley jimmy kimmel_zpsqnzc106k.gif

Miley Cyrus and her signature pasties made an appearance on Wednesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Miley is making the rounds for her MTV Video Music Awards hosting gig this weekend and she is pulling out all the attention grabbing stops.

Wearing heart-shaped pasties and a rainbow cape, Miley seemed completely comfortable and unfazed. Jimmy Kimmel on the other hand was a bit flustered and spent most of his time staring at and asking questions about her boobs...naturally.

Miley told a story about making Paul McCartney uncomfortable while wearing a similar outfit to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

“We were talking to Paul McCartney and I saw him not knowing how to talk to me. I don’t really know how to talk to Paul McCartney so it made me very comfortable because it made him more uncomfortable. So sometimes it’s a nice convo icebreaker.”

During her visit Cyrus talked about nipple censorship,

    and being a vegan nudist...naturally.

I'm look forward to seeing what she pulls out for the VMAs if this is what she wears for a casual nighttime interview.

Are You excited for Miley's VMA hosting gig?

  3. BOB-Psycadelick Thoughtz

    B.O.B. released a surprise genre-bending album and it’s great.

When B.O.B. came on the scene in 2010 with “

    ” and “
,” he created a niche for himself as a Top 40 radio friendly rapper. Ever since, there’s been an underlying struggle between letting his pop-rock leaning freak flag fly and jumping into harder hitting rap like the Nicki Minaj assisted “
    ” or “
    ” featuring 2 Chainz.

It seems like Bobby Ray found the confidence to release the album he always wanted with ‘Psycadelik Thoughtz.’ The release features everything from his signature precise rapping to guitar filled ballads. Despite the diversity of the album, it feels completely cohesive and intentional. The album reminds me of Andre 3000’s experimental album “The Love Below,” but I think B.O.B. does it better.

There was little promotion for ‘Psycadelik Thoughtz’, instead B.O.B let his fans know on Wednesday he’d be releasing new music on Friday.

To accompany the album, he released a lyric video for the album’s first single “Back and Forth.” Of the eleven tracks, “Back and Forth” is the most pop radio friendly, sounding a bit like every Black Eyed Peas song mixed together. I don’t think it represents the creativity of the rest of the album, but it will without a doubt gain airplay over the coming weeks on pop radio. Smart move.

The three standout tracks also happen to be the album’s slowest: “

    ,” “
    ,” and “
” featuring his girlfriend Sevyn Streeter. My personal favorite is “Violet Vibrato” where he shows off his voice, sounding at times like Chris Martin and John Legend.

In an age where some artists are making it harder to listen to their music through exclusive Tidal releases, B.O.B put the entire album on

and Spotify to stream for free in addition to an iTunes release. As a fan, I appreciate his approach and fearlessness in trying a new sound. I’m excited to see where he goes next.

What do you think of B.O.B’s new sound?

  4. puff-daddy-pharrell-finna-get-loose-video-01

    Puff Daddy still has it.

The artist formerly known as Diddy released the video for his new single “Finna Get Loose” featuring Pharrell and... it’s pretty great.

The Hype Williams directed clip has the same level of frantic energy as his video for Kanye’s “

,” with a bit more grime for added measure. The video shows Pharrell and Puffy performing to a hyped up crowd in an underground club while dancers get loose. Get it?

The energy of the video is just right for the song and Puff Daddy will remain one of the world’s greatest hype man-rappers. He seems just as energized as he did in the early 90s rapping with the Notorious B.I.G or Mase. It’s also nice for the world to get a taste of Pharrell’s rapping abilities through a major release. It still makes me sad how overlooked his song “

    ” with Major Lazer is.

“Finna Get Loose” is the first single from his upcoming Puff Daddy and the Family album No Way Out II, a follow up to No Way Out released in 1997. We haven’t had a release from him since the well-received “Last Train to Paris” was released in 2010. It’s good to have him back.

  5. tyrese i heart radio protest
R&B singer and Fast and Furious series star Tyrese held a protest outside of the iHeart Radio station in Los Angeles to dispute the lack of airplay he is receiving on their stations.

His CD, Black Rose, was released in July and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. His lead single, “Shame” featuring Jennifer Hudson, reached number one on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs Chart, but he still reportedly hasn’t been receiving airplay on iHeart Radio stations across America.

Tyrese spoke to TMZ on the situation saying:

"You know I got an issue with mainstream radio right now. We got the number one song in the country on Billboard, and when I think about Sam Smith, Justin Timberlake and Robin Thicke, when they're singing soul [music] their songs are being played on all formats of radio including urban stations.”

"We don't say because they're white, they should only be played on the white stations. If I'm number one with 'Shame' featuring Jennifer Hudson, my song deserves to be heard by the world. You can't expect me to sell albums when you're limiting my reach."

After weeks of venting his frustrations on social media, Tyrese took his message to the streets by Instagraming to his fans the location of the protest. Soon after a crowd of about 80 showed up outside of the Los Angeles station where he held an impromptu concert.

We don’t know if his stunt got the attention of iHeart Radio executives, but it did get the attention of police. He was given a citation for blocking the street.

Hopefully, more people will get to hear “Shame” soon. Black Rose is a solid R&B CD that could have radio success if given a chance. In a world where “Stay with Me” and “All of Me” are regularly played, there is surely room for Tyrese’s brand of R&B.

    Take a listen to "Shame":

  7. Azealia Banks Leaves Record Label

    Oops, she did it again.

A little over a year ago, 376 days to be exact, Azealia Banks excitedly tweeted that she was free from her contract with Universal Music.

It looks like Ms. Banks wants to keep with tradition because she’s back on the market after parting ways with Prospect Park. The label handled her surprise release of Broke with Expensive Taste as well as her impressive videos for “Wallace” "Ice Princess" and "Chasing Time."

Based on the lack of Twitter ranting and drama surrounding this announcement, it appears that the decision was somewhat amicable. Banks simply tweeted, “I'm leaving Prospect Park guys. AB is back on the market!” followed by her dreams for future projects.

A  Prospect Park spokesman confirmed to Billboard that, “We chose to terminate our management relationship with Azealia Banks... she’s one of the most talented artists in the world and are very proud of the work we did on her behalf. We wish her all the best.”

It will be interesting to see what a lack of record label support will do for Azalea. She isn’t letting this behind the scenes shake up slow her down.  This week Azalea is scheduled to kick off a 26 city tour beginning in Australia.

  8. iLoveMakonnen rumors music video

Since it’s Tuesday, it seems only right that we hear a song from the man who made the club go up on it.

ILoveMakonnen released the video for his acoustic song “Rumor” adding a bit of unexpected versatility to his repertoire.

It would have been easier and probably more strategic for ILoveMakonnen to follow up on the success of the Drake assisted “

” with another club banger geared at urban radio. He did the exact opposite, likely taking advice from his OVO label owner Drake who is known to not follow trends as he seamlessly jumps from emo-rap to R&B.

“Rumor” is like a mash-up of The Weeknd and Johnny Cash, with the same unique flair and warbly vocals from “Tuesday.” The video is simple, black and white, and a bit eerie. It features more shots of the subdued and possibly chemically altered crowd grooving along to ILoveMakonnen onstage than ILoveMakonnen himself.

I didn’t pay much attention to ILoveMakonnen after the hype of “Tuesday” wore off assuming he’d be a one hit wonder. I underestimated his talents and am really excited to see where he goes next musically.

  9. Empire of The Sun -Celerate Video-1

The Australian electro rock duo Empire of the Sun released a video for their latest single “Celebrate” from their sophomore album Ice on the Dune.

Shot on location in South Korea, the video shows the band’s front man, Luke Steele, lighting up the city with mysterious lights and smoke shooting from his body.

The song is a solid release from the band, but the video’s timing is odd. The first two singles, “
    ” and “
,” were released last summer and it’s rumored that their third CD, Every Ocean Tells A Story, will be released soon. Perhaps this release is to drum up continued support while they continue to tour this summer.

Nonetheless, it is great to see something new from the duo, even if the material is slightly reductive of their previous efforts. The band has a very clear aesthetic mash up of mystery, campiness, and Asian culture, but this video doesn’t move them forward.

Empire of the Sun-Celebrate Video 2
The video for “Celebrate” might be an exciting release for any other band, but it’s a sharp decline in production value and creativity that Empire of the Sun fans have come to expect. Maybe it’s time the duo shake up their aesthetics.

Here is a look back at one of their greatest songs and videos “Walking On A Dream” from their debut album Walking On A Dream.

  10. kendrick-lamar-alright-music video

Kendrick Lamar’s new music video for the song "Alright" is timely and controversial.

The seven-minute black and white clip follows in the footsteps of Kendrick’s previous thought-provoking music videos such as “

    ” and “
.” Unlike those videos, there is a clear message about staying positive and optimistic in America, despite the seemingly constant presence of racial tension.

How does Kendrick deal with these issues? By floating above it all…literally.

Throughout the video, Kendrick is seen atop light posts, street signs and floating down the street. It appears that most of these stunts were real. Back in May, images of Kendrick performing on a light post outside the Staples Center in Los Angeles began popping up on Instagram.

At the beginning of the video, Kendrick says something that I think most artists struggle with, which is whether to use their fame for good. He says:

I remember you was conflicted, misusing your influence, sometimes I did the same. Abusing my power, full of resentment. Resentment that turned into a deep depression...While my love ones were fighting a continuous war in the city, I was fighting a new one. A war that was based on apartheid and discrimination.

This surreal video was brought to life by Colin Tilley, who previously directed Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda.’ Tilley showed his versatility and talent by keeping the video whimsical and optimistic, despite its heavy subject matter.

    Tilly says:

The whole world we created is like a fantasy, a dream world. When Kendrick’s floating through the city, that’s him being like a superhero to these kids, him being something these kids can aspire towards. So, when they look up, it’s almost like it’s Superman, but it’s this world we created.

  11. Lil Mama’s New Music Video For ‘Sausage’ Is Amazing

    Her lip-gloss is still poppin!

While some pop stars are copying Fancy following formulas that were already successful in their pursuit of the song of the summer, Lil Mama went in a unique direction.

Her new song and video for ‘Sausage’ drew inspiration from the 90’s, but presents itself in a completely fresh way. Despite having a strong retro vibe, no one will be throwing swagger jacking claims at Lil Mama for this video. She pays appropriate homage to Mary J Blidge, Madonna, and the Vine videos that inspired her.

    lil-mama-music-video-sausage.jpg

Lil Mama’s role in the TLC biopic also seems to have influenced her because this is as safe-sex positive as anything the girl group released in the 90’s. She chants, "you better use a condom if you taking that sausage," to really drive her point home.

She also proved that her years of judging MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew were well deserved because she slays choreography in this 4 minute long video.

Most importantly, her rap skills are on point and she doesn’t get enough credit for them in this Nicki, Iggy, and Azealia dominated female rap world.

Lil Mama has always reminded me of a young Missy Elliott with her ability to make a feel good track that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Hopefully, there is more to come from this new Lil Mama.

  12. Azalea Banks Will Be Starring In A Musical Movie

Azalea Banks continues to make headlines for positive career moves.

The controversial rapper has been given the lead role in the new musical movie, It Doesn’t Have to Rhyme, co-staring musicians Common and Jill Scott.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be, “ … similar in tone to 8 Mile, the drama tells of a female rapper (Banks) who enrolls in college and enters a poetry course. While the class doesn’t improve her lyrical skills, as she had hoped, it does unleash in her a passion for slam poetry.”

It Doesn’t Have to Rhyme will be directed by rapper RZA who previously directed The Man with the Iron Fists, which starred Russell Crowe.

This will be a nice opportunity for Banks to flex her creative muscles and stay away from Twitter. After her standout Coachella performance this year and her innovative music videos for ‘Ice Princess’ and ‘Wallace,’ her artistry is finally getting more attention than her trolling. Hopefully, if she continues to keep herself busy with artistic endeavors, public perception of her will begin to change over time.

It Doesn’t Have to Rhyme begins filming in New York City this week and does not have a release date. The movie will likely be released in 2016 to coincide with the release of her of  follow-up to ‘Broke With Expensive Taste’ tentatively titled,‘Business & Pleasure.’

  13. lil-kim

Lil' Kim is ready to show the world a different side of herself with a new reality show.

Her new reality show, Keeping up with The Queen Bee, seems to be much lighter than her previous show, Countdown To Lockdown, which chronicled her life as she prepared to go to prison in 2005.

Kim is at a different place in her life and is ready to return her focus to music…maybe. The preview showed the rapper spending more time talking about furs, cars, and famous friends rather than where she’s going as an artist. I’m all for delusions of grandeur, but a whole series of that would be more sad than entertaining.

The preview wasn’t all name dropping and reminiscing. Kim did shift the focus to her music, saying:

“The new album, I’m pulling out all the stops. Puffy is back in my life. I’m getting ready to re-launch the new label. I’m recording and making bottles at the same time, changing diapers. It takes a lot, Lil’ Kim is a big brand.”

Nowadays, Lil' Kim is mostly known for her ever-changing appearance and rivalry with Nicki Minaj over her own music; it will be nice to see her motivated and creative again.

One glimmer of hope from the preview was P. Diddy , who is back in the studio with Kim. They produce some of her most memorable tracks together, most notably her hit from the year 2000, "How Many Licks."

The reality show has no set release date so hopefully it does eventually see the light of day along with her new music.

Diplo may have recently claimed to be bigger than Rihanna, but that didn't stop him from remixing BBHM.

It would be nice if we got a new song from RiRi, but we're so thirsty for R8 that we aren't going to complain.

The new Diplo remix is more enjoyable than the original, or any of the other BBHM remixes. He has a way of making music sound grand and  stadium worthy when he wants, and this remix is no exception. The original version had a laid back trap influenced beat that was made for driving around. The new version  received a much needed dose of energy and is clearly made for the club. Maybe these two should team up for R8 after-all.

In other news... Rihanna is following in the famous footsteps of Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman and Jennifer Lawrence by becoming a brand spokesmodel for Dior. She’s already been on countless magazine covers and flawlessly starred in campaigns for Puma and Balmain. Her new ad is slightly more major because it marks the first time an African American woman has starred in a Dior campaign.

Despite being a high fashion campaign regular at this point, Rihanna acknowledged that this newest accomplishment had an impact on her too.

"[it’s] such a big deal for me, for my culture, for a lot of young girls of any color. I think to be acknowledged by Dior means a lot, as a woman, to feel beautiful - to feel elegant and timeless."

Steven Klein, director of Lady Gaga’s "Alejandro" music video and perfume campaign, shot the ad at the Palace of Versailles in Paris. A full length commercial drops Monday, May 18th. Until then we get a sneak peak of the commercial and her new song with Florence Welch “Only If For a Night,” from her upcoming album.

Check out a new teaser Riri posted this morning as well. It features her cover of Florence + The Machine's “Only If For A Night.”

  16. Screen Shot 2015-05-11 at 9.23.08 PM

“I am a pop artist, so my medium is public opinion, and the world is my canvas.”

Today Kanye West became Dr. Kanye West when he was given an honorary doctorate in fine arts from the prestigious Art Institute of Chicago. He gave a brief Kanye styled speech at the commencement ceremony.

In true Yeezy fashion, before he started his speech, he removed the water bottles from the clear podium to make it more aesthetically pleasing. He even threw in a few jokes to lighten the mood by saying, “George W. Bush... has some very cool self-portraits. I didn't know he was an artist," referencing his controversial Hurricane Katrina

     about the former president.

After his opening he gave a heartfelt speech, in which he acknowledged his nervousness. There were a few humble brags throughout, but overall the speech was appropriate for the occasion and Kanye.

Jump to the 3:00 mark for his speech.

There were a few naysayers about Kanye receiving this honor but the schools Dean summed up her reasoning by saying:

“The guy is smart, the music is beautiful, it’s complicated, it’s post-modern, it’s hip, it’s awakening, I couldn’t be happier.”

This has been quite the year from Kanye from his Time Magazine cover, successful fashion show, and his highly anticipated album So Help Me God Swish.

  17. California-Roll-Snoop-Dogg-Cover-Art-Square-Pharrell-Stevie-Wonder-306x305

Snoop Dogg’s new song, “California Roll” isn’t about sushi, it’s an ode to his favorite pastime, marijuana.

It looks like Snoop Dogg is looking to reclaim his marijuana loving musician crown from Rihanna, not that he ever really lost it. This time he does it with longtime collaborator Pharrell and, unexpectedly, Stevie Wonder.

The song isn’t deep, or illegal. It’s about medical marijuana, which California is famous for. Snoop has given up his reggae Snoop Lion persona for the time being and returned to the experimental R&B he presented to us on his 2008 hit, “

.” “California Roll” is a laid back alternative in the race for summer anthem, but he might have a shot.

“California Roll” from his 13th album Bush, reunited Snoop with Pharrell, and apparently things got a bit wild in the studio.

Snoop and Pharrell sat down with Yahoo to discuss how the song came together.

Snoop: “I didn’t wanna rap on it because I felt like it wasn’t a rap song…once we got to the studio…I was like man I hear Stevie Wonder on this…and I got him… [i called Stevie Wonder and said] I’m in the studio with Pharrell…the next hour he showed up and he was ready to work.”

Pharrell: “And I was so scared.”

Snoop: “I was smoking so much that you had caught a second hand contact, so Stevie shows up and we get him in there and we like Stevie we just want you to do the harmonica…I’m like Pharrell produce him and you were sitting in the chair [passed out]…I hit the button and said Pharrell said just sing some adlibs…you were so high.”

Pharrell: “But the song turned out so amazing…when you listen to California Roll it’s like a soul sushi roll.”

Snoop has a few hidden gems on previous albums and produces some of his greatest work when he takes musical risks. One of my personal favorites is “

” from his album Ego Trippin featuring the unexpected addition of Willie Nelson and Everlast. It’s also about drug use; we can’t fault him for consistency.

“California Roll” is the 3rd single from Snoop’s upcoming album Bush, following the well received "

    " and "
    .”

Bush is out May 12th and features appearances from Gwen Stefani, T.I., Rick Ross, and Kendrick Lamar.

  18. Nicki Minaj Other Woman

The Head Barb is headed to a theater near you.

Nicki Minaj has officially joined the cast of Barbershop 3, where she will join fellow rappers Eve, Common and franchise regular Ice Cube. Variety reports the head barb will play Draya, the “sassy new hairdresser of the beauty shop portion of the barbershop.”

Hopefully, Nicki isn’t starting to get typecast as the sassy black woman. She played the sassy secretary in the 2014 film The Other Woman and the sassy mammoth in Ice Age: Continental Drift. This new role will obviously take her out of her comfort zone.

    Judging by her fabulously dramatic

for “The Pink Print,” she has some serious acting chops. We may just have to wait a bit longer to see them.

The Barbershop franchise centers on a lively group of barbers and hair dressers in Chicago. They might not be the most memorable films, but the first two installments grossed about $140 million worldwide.

The movie doesn’t have a release date yet, but until then we can keep our fingers crossed for collaboration between Nicki, Eve, and Common on the film’s soundtrack.

  19. Artist to Watch: Sinead Harnett

Tinashe and Jhené Aiko will soon have company in the laid back, experimental R&B category from British singer Sinead Harnett.

The half Thai and half Irish singer has been grinding in the music industry for the past few years and it’s finally paying off.

Sinead was discovered on her personal YouTube channel four years ago and has been building a buzz ever since. She’s been the featured vocalist on a few songs, but her feature on Disclosure’s “

” made people take notice. Now she is gearing up for her own solo album.

Her first official single, “She Ain’t Me,” encapsulates her vibe. The song is a laid-back, R&B influenced kiss-off that exudes a subtle confidence as she reminds her ex exactly what he’s missing out on. She recently told The Fader, "I'm an understated person and I'm not like 'look it's me!'" “She Ain’t Me” succeeds at being understated and impactful. An artist like Christina Aguilera or Jessie J could have easily turned this song into a shouting anthem.

"I wrote "She Ain't Me" on a sunny day and I'd never written about relationships before really. I was just avoiding it I think. It felt like the first time I'd felt that don't piss me off attitude. It was important to me not to just show that top layer."

Sinead is also gaining some high profile fans. It’s no surprise that her laid back vibe caught the attention of Janet Jackson. On a recent recording trip to LA, she met with Rodney Jerkins who said Janet was a fan of her song "No Other Way.”

This could be the beginning of a promising career for Sinead. Although her experimental R&B is reminiscent of a few up and coming acts, she seems to strike a better balance of vocal ability, experimental beats, and lyrics than most.

Sinead is currently finishing up her still unnamed debut album due out this year.

  20. Serving 80’s Executive Sugar Mama Realness.

Róisín Murphy’s new video for “Exploitation” follows in the footsteps of her previous visuals: offbeat, artsy, and a bit strange. This time there is a slight change as she took on the role of the director, stylist, and actor.

She gave a little insight into video, saying:

“It’s about selling out, manipulation and exploitation within creative work and in a relationship. It’s ironic because as my own director I’m exploiting myself, if that’s possible, but I am manipulating you.”

You can get her new album, Hairless Toy, on May 11th.

  21. The “Cooler Than Me” crooner is staging a comeback with a stripped-down sound.

    mike-posner-press-2015-billboard-650.jpg

When I think of Mike Posner, I think of his two inescapable 2010 hit songs, “

    ” and “
.” These two songs were always shoved in the middle of someone’s party playlist when they first came out and didn’t make much of an impact beyond their initial spike. I expected him to settle into the role of Top 40 hit churner like Jason Derulo and enjoy his easy ride at the top of the charts. Apparently, Mike wanted more for his career than that.

At the height of his career, he took a step back and reflected, saying:

“It’s not the job of the art to accommodate me and make me more money, make me more famous and get me more girls…I think I was in that mindset after 'Cooler Than Me' came out. I started getting some of those things, and I thought, ‘How about if I get more?’ I think for a period of time I did think art was there to serve me, but it took me a minute to reset.”

He didn’t let this new outlook on music keep him from working. While on hiatus from the limelight, he continued to write for artists such as Justin Bieber, Nick Jonas, and Maroon 5.

Now he’s ready to make his comeback and this time he sounds a bit more like Kid Rock. This drastic change might be just what he needs to separate himself from the pack of electronic infused hip-hop dominating the airwaves; or it may be just different enough to alienate his remaining fans. Whatever happens I appreciate his risk taking in the name of personal and artistic growth.

His new song “I Took A Pill In Ibiza," is off of his 3rd attempt at a sophomore album after scrapping Pages and Sky High and switching record labels. He is taking a stripped-down approach to his new music while adding a dose of self-reflection with lines such as, "I'm just a singer who already blew his shot/ I get along with old timers 'cause my name's a reminder of a pop song people forgot.” And not a lie was spoken.

Mike sharing his thought process on his new sound saying:

“…I was inspired by hip-hop when I first started and would sort of sing hip-hop, this new [music] is kind of my take on country music. It doesn't sound country and no one uses the word country to describe it, but it's me trying to do country and it comes out weird and different.”

"In my heart I knew the songs were among the best I'd written, but when they came out I was like, 'What the hell do I do with this?”

There is no release date for Mike’s new album, but hopefully “I Took A Pill In Ibiza" picks up some steam so we can hear the rest of what he has to offer.

  22. Tyler, The Creator photo giphy-2_zpsa0ifz3bn.gif

Riding a wave of controversy from his Coachella performance, where he tossed the F-bomb at Kendal Jenner and made fun of Dr. Dre, the talented rapper released his new album Cherry Bomb.

The entire album is a solid effort, but the most star-studded track is hands down “ Smuckers,” which features Kanye West and Lil Wayne.

“Smuckers” is as hard driving and cocky as his previous efforts, but the braggadocios verses by Yeezy and Weezy make the song shine a little brighter. The three men share an even playing field when it comes to their verses' impact. If you had to pick a winner, Kanye comes out on top, despite still talking about his foray into the fashion world.

If you can get past Tyler’s history of using the word “^@**$%” he’s a creative lyricist reminiscent of Eminem in his early days.

The track has potential to take his career to the next level and get a bit of radio play, something that has escaped the 24 year old thus far in his short career.

You can get Tyler’s full album now or you can wait until April 28th to get the physical copy, which features five different covers.

  23. Florence Welch just released the fourth, yes fourth, track from her upcoming album.

    Florence and the Machine

The dog days are over and Florence Welch is back with new music.

Florence + The Machine’s third album, How Big How Blue How Beautiful, out June 2nd seems to be following in the anthemic, gospel inspired footsteps of their previous efforts.

The latest single, “Ship to Wreck,” might be the strongest and most radio friends cut from the new album. Following in the successful footsteps of Sia's "Elastic Heart," the song isn't overproduced, allowing the focus to remain on Flo’s signature pipes. The steady guitar makes the song feel instantly familiar, reminiscent of the R.E.M hit, “

    .”

Without much of a splash, they’ve been releasing a steady stream of videos since February to support this effort.

Another stand out track is the powerful and possibly domestic violence inspired song "What Kind of Man." This video features Welch singing, “What kind of man loves like this,” while being seductively pushed and pulled by a throng of men.

They’ve also released a video for the dreamy song “
” as well as the album's title track “
    .”

Florence Welch has been a very busy woman, I just wish there was more promo, but perhaps that's all about to change. They are set to perform this weekend at Cochella followed by performances at Bonnaroo and the Governor’s Ball. You can also catch Florence + The Machine on tour this summer.

  24. Kelly is the first Idol alum to be free from the show’s recording contract.

Kelly Clarkson Is A Free Bitch, Baby!

It’s been 13 years since Kelly was crowned the first winner of American Idol and she is officially free from her recording contract.

With the release of her 7th album, Piece by Piece, Clarkson is now a free agent. She’s been open about her troubled relationship with RCA record label boss Clive Davis, so she probably won’t be resigning there.

After Davis released his tell-all memoir slamming Clarkson she let her feelings be known.

“[Clive said] I was a "sh*tty writer who should be grateful for the gifts that he bestows upon me." He continued on about how … I should just shut up and sing. This was devastating coming from a man who I, as a young girl, considered a musical hero and was so honored to work with.”

    tumblr_lqct2zISTB1qmn01to2_500_zpso8xshs

Kelly shouldn’t be worried about record label interest; she’s still a staple of Top 40 radio with three number one albums and has sold over 13 million records.

Rumors are swirling that Clarkson is setting her sights on Big Machine Label Group, Taylor Swift’s record label. That might be the best place for her since she recently revealed in a Time Magazine interview that she is already working on a country album.

“I’ve actually been creating … a country one and this one at the same time. I’ve been working on both projects simultaneously…I will have a country album that will come out. “

This could be a risky move since country radio is currently dominated by Miranda Lambert and fellow Idol alum Carrie Underwood.

I think Kelly should return to her angsty My December roots and create another powerful record that her core fans love. She has a strong voice that is instantly recognizable on Top 40 radio and it would be sad to see her go. On the upside, we’d get to see her perform at one of the 5,000 country music award shows every year.

    kelly-clarkson-christmas-concert_zpsz82r

Do you think Kelly should abandon RCA and follow her country heart or should she keep making the pop anthems we love?

  25. From TIDAL to Rihanna this week has had a few scandals

A LOT has happened this week! Here's a breakdown of some of the top stories in case you missed it!

The biggest story of the week was Tidal, Jay-Z’s new music streaming service.

    TIDAL Artists

Jay-Z, Madonna, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, and Rihanna were just a few of the artist gathered for the event. The world paid attention, and then complained.

Perhaps it was the absurdly serious tone the event and artists took that annoyed music lovers. Or perhaps it was the suggestion that we should pay anything for music. Whatever the case, people were not happy.

I’m personally all for paying artists and producers for their hard work. We’ve gotten spoiled with the accessibility of music over the past decade and often feel entitled to it, we aren’t. Artists and producers should be paid for their work, but it’s going to take more than Madonna straddling a table to make TIDAL's $240 a year price tag palatable for the masses.

    Madonna Straddling Table

The goal of the service is to make streaming services, which aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, more fair. For instance Aloe Blac wrote in a Wired op-ed that despite co-writing and singing on “Don’t Wake Me Up,” the most played song in Spotify and Pandora history with over 168 million streams; he has received a whopping $4,000 from the service.

    Kanye Head Shake

Several artists were outspoken about their distaste for TIDAL. Marina and Lily Allen were very vocal saying it’s a money grab and too steep for fans.

TIDAL wasn’t the only controversy, Rihanna caused a stir when the internet discovered a song by artist Just Britney that sounded very familiar to your new ratchet anthem, “Bitch Betta Have My Money.”

    Rihanna Head Shake

Many of you were quick to attack Kanye, who is overseeing her album, but we should be setting our site on her producer Deputy who took credit for the songs construction before the controversy.

Deputy was cocky when he sat down with The Fader saying:

"The record is 90-95% me—it's no shade on nobody, but at the end of the day, the record is produced by Deputy. I been in this game for a minute, so I understand how the game is, and it's cool."

It’s hard to argue with that.

In other news the final two Danity Kane members decided to cut their losses and start their own duo, Dumblonde.

    Aubrey

Justin Bieber is in the studio working on his new album that will feature a “grown-up” sound.

    And then...

T-Pain said Aaliyah’s legacy was inflated because of her death.

    Aaliyah Annoyed

There were quite a few great live performances this week between award shows and talk shows.

    Taylor and Madonna

There was a batch of new music videos from some of our faves:

    A Banks Ice Princess

We discovered new music from some familiar and unfamiliar voices.

    Chris Brown

Last, but not least our girl Britney has been laying low preparing for that “Pretty Girls” video. But the show goes on without her:

    Britney Bitch
