Feel their pain on Em's new 'Revival' track.
Eminem taps Ed Sheeran for Revival track "River."
The rapper's new album is officially out today (Dec. 15), and it's getting mixed reviews. Em is having trouble finding where he fits in today's musical landscape. It's definitely corny how many major mainstream pop stars he recruited for Revival, but there's no doubt about it: Em knows how to craft a radio friendly hit. That appears to be the goal of this record, and if you can stomach that you'll love "River."
On it, the two sing about a destructive love.
"I've been a liar, been a thief / Been a lover, been a cheat," Sheeran croons in the opening. "All my sins need holy water, feel it washing over me / Oh, little one, I don't wanna admit to something / If all it's gonna cause is pain / Truth in my lies right now, are falling like the rain / So let the river run."
As for Em's part, he details a woman's destructive ways and the guilt he feels from one-night stands. "Cause she loves danger, psychopath / And you don't f--k with no man's girl, even I know that / But she's devised some plan to stab him in the back / Knife in hand, says the relationship's hanging by a strand."
Much of the track was recorded in March 2016 during Ed's vacation at actor Russell Crowe's farm in Australia. "I used the studio at Russell's house," Sheeran told Billboard. "Played the drums on it, and then played the guitar, and then recorded the thing and wrote the chorus and did the piano on it, and then sent it off and then didn't hear anything back."
