UPDATE // OCTOBER 05: Emeli Sandé shared a brooding black and white music video for her new song off ‘Long Live The Angels.’ In the clip, the Long Live The Angels singer is seen singing in stark landscapes while her romance (conveniently, a gorgeous shirtless model) remains unreachable. Watch:
EARLIER // SEPTEMBER 16:
Emeli Sandé just dropped one of the raddest songs this week with “Hurts.”
We haven’t heard a lead song from Sandé in four years, but the wait was worth it. Her triumphant return boasts a powerful dance track about being utterly vulnerable.
“Baby, I’m not made of stone / It hurts / Loving you the way I do / It hurts.”
Sandé’s powerhouse vocals blare over an infectious clap-beat and rising strings.
“For a long time, I couldn’t imagine ever going there again,” Sandé recently told The Sunday Times about her new single. “I wanted to sing, but I wanted to do that in a totally different way. If I was going to come back, I had to know I could be an artist and not a product.”
In a press release, Sandé explains her sophomore album, Long Live The Angels (out Nov. 11), is “about me not holding back and not censoring myself, and ‘Hurts’ is an explosion, it’s just…real talk.”
