Clearly his stint as an advisor on The Voice has affected Ed, check out his cover of Xtina's 2002 jam "Dirrty" in Radio 1's Live Lounge.
If you thought Nick Jonas' cover of Kanye's "Only One" was the weirdest cover we'd witness this week, you haven't seen anything yet. Popping in to Radio 1's Live Lounge this morning, Ed Sheeran took on one of Christina's biggest hits with a 'stripped' back (get it?) acoustic rendition of "Dirrty."
And you know what? It's kind of everything.
Take a listen below:
This one's definitely for all you true lovers of music out there; the cover reimagines the song as a simpler guitar and piano jam and funks out the original urban track for something a little closer to the folk-pop we saw on Ed's sophomore album, 'X'. It sounds like it shouldn't work, I know, but it does. It just does. Sheeran even tackles Redman's rap (whatever happened to Redman?) and sounds damn good while he's at it.
Ed and Christina have been working together on NBC's 'The Voice,' with Ed serving as an advisor to the "Candy Man" hitmaker for her return season, and evidently she made quite the impression on the tiny red-head. When she's not busy impersonating your faves, Aguilera's working on a new record, so here's hoping for a transatlantic collaboration.
