Demi Lovato Replaces Selena Gomez As Global Citizen Festival Headliner

Demi Lovato steps in as the Global Citizen Festival headliner after Selena Gomez bows out due to health issues.

Gomez alerted fans she's taking a break and canceling the duration of her Revival tour to take care of herself after complications from Lupus started to take a toll.

Her Disney gal pal and fellow pop superstar Demi Lovato is lending a hand – she'll act as one of the festival's main acts come Sept. 24, People confirms.

"The Global Citizen Festival combines music and activism in a way that inspires and affects millions around the world," said Lovato of the event which takes place in New York City's Central Park. "I am proud to support this amazing organization's ongoing efforts to improve global healthcare and to end extreme poverty."

Lovato is currently performing with Nick Jonas on the Future Now tour.

"I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off," Gomez told fans last month. "Thank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues."
