"You should be here, and I shouldn't be singing this song."
Just over a week ago, singer Christina Grimmie was tragically killed by a man who was reportedly obsessed with the 22-year-old. She greeted the assailant after her show with open arms, and he used her kindness against her when he shot Grimmie from several feet away.
Thousands attended her funeral over the weekend, which included emotional speeches from her family.
"This crowd has blessed me beyond words," Grimmie's father said. "There is this gigantic hole in my heart that I know is never going to go away but God showed me he is way bigger than that hole. I believe that. There are three things that keep me upright rather than being a crumpled mess in the corner. I know I am going to see her again. She is not going to be hurting... This is where I am wrestling, God's plan is better than my plan. I've argued with God, 'Your plans are better than mine?' This doesn't make sense."
"When the gunman came, he was very quick, it happened so fast, her arms were open and she saw Jesus next," said her brother. "Her arms were open for him, her arms were open at all times. I love you Christina, you are the best."
Someone who's putting their words to song is Grimmie's musical friend MAX, who crafted a dreamy piano ballad
“For Christina: You were so kind. So loving. We all wish you were still here with us but pray you’re in a better place," MAX wrote on the YouTube page. "Rest in peace Christina. You will continue to inspire and bring joy to all of our lives every day.”
