Charli XCX says her new album could change the sound of pop music, and it certainly might.
Since then, several more cuts from her new catalogue have made its way onto the Internet. One of the songs is the helium-centric, Sailor Moon-inspired power ballad "Paradise" featuring Hannah Diamond. The song is a mixture of dreamy fantasy and quirky electro dance. It's purposefully confusing and aimless. She sings "We're in paradise / soaring through the sky / Seeing pink and white / We can make it right."
Fans also have "Secret (Shh)" to look forward to. It's Charli's daunting rebellious song about keeping secrets. In it, she coos her breathy signature sound over a lowkey trap beat and blaring subwoofers. "If I share my secret / promise you'll keep it / If I share my secret / no one gets to know but you."
"Vroom Vroom" premiered last year:
Charli XCX's Vroom Vroom EP will take you on a ride.We scoffed when Charli announced last year her upcoming album could "change the sound of pop music," in part because every pop star ever says that and also her claim to fame is "Fancy" with Iggy Azalea. We apologize, because what we've heard off Vroom Vroom thus far is fresh and certainly could influence artists to follow suit. On Tuesday (Feb. 23), Charli revealed her new label, also titled Vroom Vroom, will begin streaming her new EP on Friday before its official release on March 25th. She then premiered a song titled "Trophy" on Apple Music:
"Vroom Vroom Recordings is my new, experimental pop label and it will combine my love for bubblegum pop with mystery and darkness. The artists coming up through it will be sharp, potent, deadly, and ultimately, will leave their mark on pop music. RIVRS and CuckooLander are two artists who have so much intelligence, pop sensibility and potential - they know what they want and both have great vision. That inspires me and it's why I want to work with them. I've always been fascinated by shy and introverted people—something that I am mostly not—and I feel both acts are in different ways. It captivates me and sucks me in, and I think their music will do the same for others. I've worked with SOPHIE on the new EP and what we create together speaks for itself. Sometimes we get aggressive, sometimes we get beautiful; he pushes me and I push him. I'm making beautiful party songs right now and this is just the start. The album goes to other places and I can't wait for people to hear it. I feel the most creative I have in a long time and I couldn't be more excited for the next chapter."We're impressed.
