Celebrate! Lady Gaga’s ‘Joanne’ Album Certified Platinum

Lady Gaga earns her fourth Platinum-certified album.

Nearly a year after the record debuted, Gaga revealed her fifth studio album has achieved a major milestone. The RIAA certified it Platinum, meaning it earned one million equivalent album units in the U.S.

Billboard breaks down what that means: “One equivalent album unit, as recognized by the RIAA, is equal to: one album sale, 10 tracks sold from an album, or 1,500 on-demand audio and/or video streams from an album. The RIAA revamped its Gold & Platinum Awards Program on Feb. 1, 2016, growing from a pure album sales certification process to one that includes tracks and streams.”

Joanne was originally released on October 21, 2016.

Gaga shared the news on Instagram. “Feels good for #Joanne to be Platinum in the United States, w/ an album I made so from my ❤️,” she said. “I couldn’t be more happy thank you from me and my family to you!”
