Carly Rae Jepsen speaks frankly about her less than stellar album sales.
Despite not meeting the dizzying heights of 'Kiss', Carly Rae Jepsen is un-phased by 'EMOTION's' commercial performance.
Speaking to Buzzfeed this week, the "Run Away With Me" singer had some choice words for those who seek to undermine her brilliant third album by citing poor record sales:
"I feel quite happy with how the record’s done, to be honest. I don’t really compare it to Kiss or whatever I’m gonna do next. That’s not where my attention goes. I feel really lucky that people have received it so well and that it has sold any amount."
She also spoke of the grueling promotional tour for 'EMOTION', with Buzzfeed reporting:
“Usually, there’s a balance between work and play, but this time it was a little too much,” she said, laughing ruefully. “I got to the point where I was like, ‘I wanna pull a Britney Spears and shave my head.’”
We'd hazard a guess that her promotional schedule doesn't quite equate to Britney Spears' experience in 2006/7, but her sentiment is clear enough.
CRJ's manager, Scooter Braun (who also supervises Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande,) was perhaps a little less enthusiastic report of the sales but acknowledged that despite receiving little public engagement, it was a fantastic album.
“For us, domestically, yeah, it was… it was… I won’t say it was disappointing, it was expected, and now we have a job to do... Carly did her job. She gave an incredible album that she’s incredibly proud of, and I will be so proud for the rest of my life knowing I’m associated with it.”
Despite poor sales, 'EMOTION' is widely regarded as one of the best pop albums of the year - find out where it placed in our top 20 countdown.
