Calvin Harris accepted the award for Solo Artist of the Year in the GQ Men of the Year issue on the same day news broke of his ex Taylor Swift splitting with Tom Hiddleston.
In other words, +1 for Harris.
The superstar DJ has remained relatively mum about his breakup with Swift, aside from a few impulsive (and since deleted) Tweets, but the "This Is What Your Came For" producer took the opportunity to explain his side.
"It's very difficult when something I consider so personal plays out very publicly," he said via The Sun. "The aftermath of the relationship was way more heavily publicized than the relationship itself."
He added Swift and him tried to keep things as lowkey as possible.
"When we were together, we were very careful for it not to be a media circus," he said. "She respected my feelings in that sense."
Harris also made light of the tabloid drama surrounding his split when he accepted his award, thanking his manager Mark Gillespie for the support.
"We started out at the same time. We discovered a lot of new exciting experiences together, whether it be touring together or dealing with endless amount of bulls--t that's written about people in 2016. So thank you."
