Bruno Mars Shades The Billboard Music Awards?

It appears Justin Bieber isn't the only A-lister not feeling the Billboard Music Awards.

The last time we sunk our teeth into a new Bruno Mars record was in 2012 when he put forth the multi-Platinum Unorthodox Jukebox record, which produced several massive singles including "Locked Out Of Heaven," "Treasure" and "When I Was Your Man." Mars kept his name in our heads in the years to follow, releasing "Uptown Funk" with Mark Ronson, which spent 14 consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and two Super Bowl performances. Needless to say, Mars is one of the greatest artists of our generation.

Plus, he has Adele's stamp of approval ("I think he definitely will be the biggest, biggest, biggest artist in the world").

Bruno will have his chance to prove Adele right later this year when he releases his next single off the forthcoming third studio album, and hopefully there'll be an epic performance at next year's Billboard Music Awards, because Sunday's show left Mars unimpressed.

50 minutes into the show (after Britney Spears' epic intro medley), Mars shared his boredom, saying:

"I'm watching the Billboard Awards and I really miss me."

He's not alone apparently. The show was watched by 8.9 million people (down 20% from last year), though it still took the No. 1 spot for the night.

Maybe Mars meant he just misses performing? Or he was just bored.

Mars started work on the album after finishing up his tour last year, Mars’ engineer Charles Moniz confirmed to Billboard earlier this year. “I think we’ve very close,” Moniz said. “I think it’s going to be the next movement of Bruno,” he said.

The mood in the studio is “about having fun. It’s about everyone coming together and having a good time,” Moniz continued. “That’s the thing: When the vibe’s right and everyone’s having fun, that’s when the best music comes out.”

We also know he's got a collaboration with Missy Elliott in the works. Last month, Elliott shared a couple of photos of her and Mars' studio session, saying "Big up to @brunomars I had a blast with him in the studio vibing!#magic He such a rare gem & such a humble spirit!"
