BreatheHeavy's 1 On 1 Interview With "2 On" Singer Tinashe

It's easy to recognize singer-song writer Tinashe is 21-years-old. Her music is all over radio and she's ready to C-E-L-E-B-R-A-T-E.

"I feel like it's my first time doing Vegas the right way, like, I'm gonna really party it up tonight," Tinashe tells BreatheHeavy.com outside her appearance at TAO nightclub in Las Vegas over the weekend.

I watched her pose for photos in a yellow dress and camouflage jacket before our chat, and I could tell she's enjoying her newfound celebrity. And why shouldn't she? Her first single, "2 On," off her debut album, "Aquarius," is lighting up the charts - currently sitting at #25 on the Billboard Hot 100.

"'2 On' is my baby. I wanted to put out a song that was fun to party to in the clubs, and just have a lot of energy to and dance to. I think '2 On' definitely hit all those marks," she says of the song. "I'm just happy everyone's receiving it so well and responding to it."

Her album's slated for an October release, and was in the works for a while. A while for a youngster, anyhow.

"I've been working on [Aquarius] for over a year - I have 150 songs recorded for it. I'm really excited to finally get it out there."

She released this album teaser on Monday:

"I think it's very complicated nowadays," Tinashe tells me about what it means to be a successful artist in 2014. "You can't take [sales] as a solid judgement of who's more popular or famous. I think success is being happy, and connecting with fans in a positive way and know you're making a difference."

Tinashe relies heavily on social media to reach her fanbase, but recognizes it opens the door for lack of privacy, song leaks and scandal.

"There's a good and bad side" to social media, she says. "Sometimes I think it's bad people can be so close to you and you are so accessible, and information is so easily spread. At the same time, it's also a blessing with music - being able to put it out there and share it with the world."

A positive in social media:

Tinashe reveals she has several "Aquarius" collaborations, including Dev Hynes, A$AP Rocky, SchoolBoy Q and Future, adding she'd love to work with Emily Haines, James Blake and SBTRKT. "I want to do some alternative collabs," she continued.

The Los Angeles-native knows she wouldn't be where she is today if it wasn't for her devoted fans.

"Thank you guys so much for supporting me. It's because of you that I've gotten to the point I'm at, and I really appreciate it. Thank you."

Before heading into the busy nightclub, Tinashe told me: "I want to focus on my music. I want people to take that really seriously, and know that I'm really serious about music."

And partying?
