Björk Announces 9th Studio Album Lead Single “The Gate”

The first taste of Björk's “dating album” arrives September 18.

The Icelandic revealed the otherworldly cover art for her forthcoming single, “The Gate,” which follows the news that her album is “coming soon.”

No word on what the track sounds like, but the singer says it’s “essentially a love song,” adding, she says “‘love’ in a more transcendent way.”

Vulnicura was about a very personal loss, and i think this new album is about a love that’s even greater. it’s about rediscovering love – but in a spiritual way, for lack of a better word.”

Björk explained in a previous interview with Dazed this was her “Tinder album.” “It’s about that search (for utopia) – and about being in love. Spending time with a person you enjoy is when the dream becomes real.” In a followup, the artist doubles down. “I mean, I’ve thought about what I would say here – I set myself up with the last album being a heartbreak album, so everyone’s gonna be like, ‘Are you married?’ with this one. But… it’s too fragile still. I think, if I could, I’d just say this is my dating album. Let’s just leave it there.”
