Katy Perry is victorious in her legal battle to snatch up a Los Feliz convent. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Stephanie Bowick announced on Wednesday (April 13) that she will block an effort by two nuns to sell the convent to a competing buyer – restaurateur Dana Hollister.
“We won the real property issues,” Perry’s attorney, Eric Rowen, said in a statement.
The judge said she had “extinguished” the deed to sell the property to Hollister, according to J. Michael Hennigan, who represents the archdiocese, reports the LA Times.
“We’re obviously pleased,” Hennigan said, saying the the decision puts Perry one step closer to purchasing the property.
John Scholnick, an attorney representing the two nuns, says "as far as I’m concerned it’s still game on."
The Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary claim their deal to sell the property to Hollister for $15.5 million was legal, however the Los Angeles Archdiocese claims the church has jurisdiction and that the nuns' sale was unauthorized. They believe Perry's $14.5 million cash offer is legally binding.
The judge hasn't made clear whether Perry can buy the property yet.
