■ We live in a time where gun violence and inequality is at the forefront, and it shouldn't be this way, but unfortunately with peace comes opposition. The Black Lives Matter movement stresses that yes, while all lives do matter, black people are targeted, attacked and killed more frequently based off racial profiling.
In light of recent events, news website Mic enlisted some famous faces to spread the message that the nation is in a dangerous state, but there's hope for change. They produced a gripping new video titled 23 Ways You Can Be Killed If You Are Black In America and stars Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Rihanna, Pharrell, Janelle Monaé, A$AP Rocky, Pink, Chance The Rapper, Common, Queen Latifah, Talib Kweli, Swizz Beatz, Lenny Kravitz, Bono, Jennifer Hudson and Adam Levine, Kevin Hart, Chris Rock and Taraji P. Henson.
“Failing to signal a lane change,” Keys says in the intro as one reason a black person could be killed, referring to Sandra Bland. Beyoncé highlights Philando Castile, saying: “riding in your girlfriend’s car with a child in the back.” All of the reasons included are trivial and non-threatening, like walking away from police, selling CDs (Alton Sterling) and other non-confrontational actions.
