EARLIER // JULY 12:
Aluna Francis admitted last year she cried when writing "Mean What I Mean," and now the London crooner has another reason to shed a tear: the song finally premiered.
Francis, who is one-half of the English electronic music duo AlunaGeorge (the other being producer George Reid), premiered the snazzy new tune, which features female rapper Leikeli47 and Dreezy, on Annie Mac's BBC Radio 1 show on Tuesday (July 12). It features a reggaeton-drenched beat and blaring synth horns with catchy hooks and blazing edge, but it's the subtext that'll catch your attention.
"It got kind of written and produced in different places," Francis said of the song. "The lyrics really come from... it's a very genuine place I'm singing from here. I was in a situation... I said 'no.' The person I was with was like 'no, you mean yes! That's what you mean. I know what you mean and you mean yeah cause you're just playing hard to get.'" With a laugh she admitted to fleeing the scene, but knew the dismal experience was solid writing material.
