Alessia Cara sings her empowering song "Scars To Your Beautiful" on Ellen.
At only 20-years-old, Cara knows the industry (and anonymous Internet commentators) can chew you up and spit you out, so she wrote "Scars To Your Beautiful" to battle that negativity.
"It's basically a song for women... I think in this day and age it's extremely hard to be a woman," a fresh-faced Cara tells Ellen after her performance. "Especially with all these exceptions. We're constantly told on a daily basis, all the time, that we have to look a certain way and if we don't fit that mold or that standard then we don't have a right to feel beautiful or love ourselves. I wanted to make a song that spoke out against all of that nonsense and noise and reminds everybody that you don't need to change for anybody else."
