"My artist of my life is Beyonce and this album, the Lemonade album, was just so monumental."
Moments after winning Record of the Year for "Hello," Adele was honored with the biggest award of the night: Album of the Year for 25. "It took an army to make me strong and willing again to do it," Adele shared, breaking down in tears. "Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Five years ago when I was last here, I also was pregnant and I didn't know and I was awarded that shortly after... In my pregnancy and through becoming a mother I lost apart of myself. I struggled, and I still do struggle being a mom. It's really hard." She decided it wasn't hers to claim. In an impromptu moment inspired by friendship, Adele told the crowd (and Beyonce) the award was destined for Lemonade.
"The Lemonade album was so monumental and so well thought out and so beautiful and soul baring," she explained. "We got to see a side of you that you don't always let us see."
She added: “And all us artists adore you. You are our light, and the way you make me and my friends feel, the way you make my black friends feel, is empowering, and you make them stand up for themselves. And I love you, and I always have, and I always will.”
