Hello, it's Lionel?
Upon the release of Adele's monster hit "Hello", a mash-up of the song and Lionel Richie's 1983 hit of the same name went viral. Lionel recently opened up to E! News about his thoughts on the mash-up and Adele's insanely popular song, calling the viral video "hilarious". The legendary singer then clarified that he had no problem with Adele using the name Hello: "You have no idea how many people called me on the phone and said, 'Are you going to let her get away with that? She stole 'Hello!'' Then I said I don't own 'Hello.' I own the melody".
Not only does he not mind the comparisons, he loves being brought up in the same sentence as the "Love in the Dark" singer: "what it did was it blew everything to the ceiling. The conversation came up. If you say Adele and you say Lionel or Lionel and Adele...that's the best pairing you could have!"
The Grammy winner then went on to hint that soon the connection between the two singers will be going beyond starring in memes together. Speaking to E! News, Lionel revealed that there have been talks of a collaboration between him and the record-breaking vocalist, saying: "We are going to be doing something together—that's already almost in the works".
He did not specify what the nature of their collaboration would be, but admitted that it probably won't happen right away. He explained that Adele is now focused solely on touring, as such the collaboration will have to wait: "Her mission is [to] get her record out and go on tour, so until she finishes that cycle, that won't happen just yet. She is committed to that."
Who knew a viral meme would inspire an actual collaboration? Everything Adele puts her voice on turns to gold, so we're sure if the collaboration does end up happening, it won't disappoint.
